Just tried out the new texture pack (plastic). Pretty nice. Things look even more blocky if you can believe that. Some blocks blend more like sand or grass. Some blocks like soul sand have a single picture (skull) on the sides. Everything seems easily recognizable and easy to transition too. I prefer the basic minecraft textures but like having the option.
It's more cartoony for me and I wouldn't mind seeing a map based off of the Wind Waker timeline made using it.
Other than that, the simplicity is just as nice as the complexity of the ME one.
It does what it set out to do and I think 4J have done an excellent job with it. However, a plastic look and something that merely looks a little blockier than the original just doesn't interest me. I like the original textures just fine. I am waiting to see what the natural and medievil ones look like before buying any texture packs. I just have a feeling they might suit my tastes a little better, but we'll just have to wait to see.

Umm, I like it.
Some blocks I liked, others I didn't. But when I got underground, being surrounded by the grey gridline effect that the borders on smooth stone makes caused me to physically get ill so I actually can't use the pack.
I really like it too! Except for the grass and dirt. Anyways does anyone think making pixel art in this
texture pack will look good or even better than default? My scott pilgrim pixel art seemed pretty good
with it on but, still having hard time to decide because its more blocky. Still has same colors though.
Someone help convince me please!
Disappointing. I've seen some texture packs that make builds look absolutely breath taking. This makes them look like something a toddler shoved together from a box of Playskool toys. Mass Effect was a bore too. It seems like everyone is better at making texture packs than the one group of people who are paid to do it. If the medieval one is this bad, I am officially giving up hope until we're allowed to make our own.
I really like it. It is my preferred texture to play with at the moment. Just gives a whole new fresh look to the game, which I think is the purpose of a texture pack?!? Correct me if I'm wrong! For me, it's good. I was happy to buy it. Looking forward to the ones they bring out next.
It also makes certain maps look better! Like candyland hunger games looks more believable!
Or mario bros themed places! Seriously looks a lot better if you going for a retro theme!
I like it. I probably won't use it all the time but I ended up buying it. It mixes things up without completely confusing me like the Mass Effect Mash Up. I definitely am not interested in that.

i don't understand the hate that new texture packs are getting. it does what its supposed to do. mass effect - give players a way to build something sci-fi based and have it look realistic. the amount of people who complained "how is that blue wool?" "that is the worst pumpkin!" it obviously was not intended for survival. i actually prefer the mass effect from the plastic one because it adds variation. ohh we can have glow stone be completely white or ohh we can have a whole new inventory of blocks to choose from. i agree that they are not the best texture packs in the world but they really aren't that bad

Intended for survival or not, the Mass Effect pack plays out just fine in survival. I've been playing survival on the Mass Effect world since the pack came out and I'm STILL enjoying it. The only real drawback I've found is that, in that particular world, they appear to have accidentally converted all the sandstone to end stone along with most of the sand and killed off all the cacti that were in that seed originally. This has made plain gray blocks (sandstone and green wool) essentially unobtainable in that world (except for a few that can be scavenged from the Mars Base). Glass (due to a shortage of sand) is also in short supply.. These things are not an issue in regular seeds being played in Mass Effect textures.
The hate heaped on the Mass Effect pack boils down to two things:
1) People basically just not wanting to relearn what the blocks look like. Once you do learn to recognize the new look for each block, the game plays out exactly the same as it ever has... and exactly the same as it does with the Plastic Texture Pack.
2) The ME textures being different enough that people can't just build stuff using the default textures, save it, and then show it off in the Mass Effect textures for free. They would have to buy the Mass Effect pack in order to build stuff that looks good in the Mass Effect textures. There is no such issue with the Plastic Pack and I'm sure that there are a whole lot of people just using the trial version to show off their "plastic" builds that they've built using the default textures.

I don't hate it, but I will say that I have really bad short term memory I have honestly played with the mass effect pack every day since it came out for at least half an hour each day, and I still have to ask "What the hell is that" at least a dozen times every day I use it My son loves it though, and I will end up buying it just because every time we use it we get another save file in our ever growing list!

Identifying the blocks - Here's a couple of things that can help... 1) IF you turn the "hints" on (I'm not in front of my Xbox right now, but there are two types of hints that you can toggle on or off) and point your cursor at a block, you'll see a "what's this" option appear that will provide info on that object when selected. 2) Grab the block and put it in your inventory and then just scroll over it to see the label (which is the simplest for most things). 3) Carry a crafting table with you and you can scroll through the various slots to identify a crafted block... or even a natural block if it is used as an ingredient in a crafting recipe. You can also call up the written description of the ingredients.
We tend to play in quick "survival" rounds (hardcore-like so when someone dies the game round is over). As a result, I usually delete most old worlds fairly quickly using the "Save Options (RB)" on the load screen. I only have about 4 longer-term build worlds that I'm keeping. This delete option also works with the Mass Effect Save worlds. I did notice with the Plastic TP that any new world created with the trial pack will delete itself entirely when exited. I suspect the next trial Mash-Up pack will behave the same way.
So what do you'll think?
