Ive seen some iron golem farms on youtube ( all done in creative ) , but I want to do mine in survival. My question is as follows. If I trap all villagers then destory the village, Will the golems still spawn in the trap?
I did mine in survival mode using a variation of the "Iron Cloud" design. I did not elevate the trap quite as far off the ground and did not build the second trap above the first. I built the trap within the boundaries of an existing village; however, I stayed out of hard mode while I was building it since I did not want to risk a zombie siege breaking down doors, particularly while I was relocating my villagers into the trap.
To accomplish the transport of villagers into the golem trap, I first barricaded them one night in a couple of houses in the village. Their tendency to want to crowd together in a single house aided this effort quite a bit. I then removed all the doors on the village houses where there were no villagers blocked inside.
Then, before I put the layer of doors around the top of trap, I would just put one door on one of the villager holding cells on the sides of the trap and just let a couple of villagers out of the village house at a time (blocking the door once I got two out). Another alternative are to shove them into minecarts and transport them into the villager holding cells by rail.
Since the door on the trap's villager cell was the only accessible door in/near the village, the two villagers on the loose would go inside that door come nightfall... at which point I would quickly block that door.
I repeated this process until I had 4 pairs of villagers evenly distributed in the 4 cells on the side of the trap. Then I destroyed all the remaining village houses and killed the excess villagers. Then I added the layer of doors on the top of the trap... at which point the pairs of villagers began having baby villagers inside their cells. When the number of villagers inside the cells exceeded 16 is when the first iron golem spawned inside the trap. Since I've destroyed all the other houses, the center of the village is the center of my trap, so the golem spawns consistently inside the trap itself.
We (mostly others on the server) did the iron golem farm on hard survival. Transported the villagers with temporary minecart track. The grinder is two separate iron golem spawn areas about 60 blocks apart and 5 blocks above the ground. Both on the same level. Both spawners use water feed system to bring golems into central gather point. They pass through 3 lava blades to weaken them for fist kill or a fourth lava blade can be activated for the kill. The grinder is outside the village area and in the plains. Yesterday the grinder architect transported four villagers back to the central plains village because we lost all our villagers at that location.
Note: Not mentioning specific names because I didn't ask them beforehand what their preference was. I was not personally responsible for the vast majority of this build. It produces (maybe?) half a stack of iron every hour? Hard to tell since multiple people farm the grinder when they are in the area. Hard to remember what it was like before we had unlimited iron. Now iron blocks line the bottom of peoples pools on hard survival!
