I really like the new lamp they included with the update. I hated how glow stone looked. Since most of the things I build are quite massive I don't bother actually wiring all the lights to a switch I just put a Redstone torch next to/above the lamp and that was worked fine so far.
My question is, will this ever come back to bite me in the bum? I know if left in a rapidly repeating loop the torches can burn out but has anyone experienced problems with them doing this out side of loops? Am I going to notice more lag because of the amount of Redstone torches? Would using less torches and instead wiring them in arrays off a single torch be a better solution? I haven't actually had ANY problems yet I'd just hate to find out that I DO have a problem after I install 200th Lamp.
P.S. What is the minimum space required for Endermen to spawn? I wan't to keep them away from my wiring.
I have heard that large amounts of redstone torches will cause lag. Which is why I try to use as few as possible. I haven't personally experienced any problems as of yet, it's just a "best practice" kind of thing.

Retired StaffThis is what I've been doing to lamps that I can't light with torches
