I have to say, I think the textures look good. I, unlike many other people, realize that this was a texture pack that was SUPPOSED to make everything look radically different. You can't do a futurific sci-fi build with anything resembling the textures we have now. It's not really meant for survival (though I've watched a guy do a Let's Play using the Mass Effect textures and I have to say the strongholds look cool).
However, I haven't bought the pack yet. I'm holding out for a Halo mash-up pack and I'll decide at that time which one I like better.
But either way, I cannot understand how, aside from the fact that it's meant for creative building, anyone would dislike these textures.

i may be wrong and i cant seem to put it into words but i will try...the blocks are drastically different than what is commonly seen in vanilla and doesnt fit well in survival mode. and some players want things to look more real..people seem to also want ores to look more like ores. if that can be explained better somehow?
people are just letting 4j know exactly how they feel about the textures, in hopes of getting what they want or do not want to see in future mash-ups..... i am sure 4j studios has a major interest in what their fans like and dislike. I am not at all against people voicing their opinions on the matter and neither should others ..I just feel people are going too far by directly burning the company itself for the decisions made.
People keep saying this game is not for survival, but it really does just fine survival. All the resources are still there, they just look different. Once you memorize the new blocks, it is no tougher than vanilla survival. Everything behaves the same as it does in vanilla... So, after three days of hearing this same old line - My question is, what specifically makes it so wrong a fit with survival?

I dont have any problem with it...these are not my opinions but others opinions that i have read about in these forums... why people some people dont like it...im just repeating what others have said. i apologize for not specifying this.. i am sure that if i played it in survival..i would love it too...i could get used to it.

there isnt anything wrong with it, that i can think of...people will always like what they like and dislike what they do not like..it is just a matter opinion...not facts.
there isnt anything wrong with it, that i can think of...people just cant seem to wrap there heads around the new textures..apparently.
It's that people expect textures to look like what they are. I remember one post criticizing that sugar canes and mushrooms looked metallic. What they don't understand is it's for a sci-fi build, not to make survival look better. Yes everything looks metallic, but you couldn't very well build a spaceship with mushrooms, wooden planks, and cobblestone, now could you? I've seen videos of texture packs in PC Minecraft that I'd imagine could only exist if they drastically changed the textures of most of the blocks.
And those who do understand that are probably butthurt because the first texture pack was meant for creative builders and they'll have to wait for a texture pack that's meant for survival. It's the mature ones who are patient enough to wait for that time.

I almost never play in creative mode and have been playing ME Survival both in the ME World and one of my own worlds ever since it came out. IMO, learning the new blocks has been fun, and I now have no problems recognizing most things right away. Yes, my survival build style (such as it is) has changed, but my home bases in both worlds are built with of the pretty basic variety of wood planks (easily obtained in survival mode) and they look just fine both in the pack textures and in regular textures. The game mechanics haven't changed at all, so it is every bit as playable in survival as vanilla is.
I can see in some multiplayer survival games where the existence of the Mars Base might pose a bit of a problem if there are people in the group who can't resist scavenging ores from the base. However, in my ME world, I'm playing mostly solo and only occasionally with one other friend; and we are both absolutely committed about not scavenging... so, with the right people, it is still totally playable in survival. We do plan to eventually add on to the base after we collect sufficient materials to work with, adding in doors and interiors to the sections of the base that are currently not accessible. Having the base there is definitely helping us formulate ideas.
For those playing in the ME World, check out the ravine at X-84, Y35, Z-254 (but don't dig down right at those coordinates or you will fall right into it). I should have written down the coordinates from one side of it, but unfortunately I was standing right in the bottom of it when I took out my map. It is a really special place worth almost the $3.99 all on it's own and doesn't look near as impressive in vanilla. I found it when exploring an adjacent mineshaft. The best view of it is from the mineshaft itself; but I didn't write down the coordinates of that spot.

...i will not say its meant for one or the other yet..some people like, up up and away, really likes the new texture in survival mode..so therefore the textures can be enjoyed in survival mode as much as, or more than somebody else would in creative mode .and maybe a lot of survivalists were just expecting something that resembles vanilla more closely...majority opinion does not make something true. but it can sway the minds of those who make money using that majority opinion..
I like hearing the good reviews of it too. For me, I can appreciate that this is exactly what some people want and 4j have put a lot of work into it and don't deserve the criticism that they have gotten. I am hoping they will continue to bring out many others, so that everyone ends up with at least one that they really love. I don't particularly like this mash-up, as I would prefer the blocks to resemble the originals a little more. I don't really like the sci-fi theme, it doesn't suit me and the way I play/build. But that's just me. It would be a boring world if everyone liked the same thing.
Oh no, someone likes something. They obviously work for the people who made it. Because if I don't like it, that obviously means no one else does or can.

lol i however did not..the opposite in fact...but i do understand where he is coming from and i do think my gratefulness for this texture pack did come off a bit too promotional....
I am glad somebody went through the trouble of starting a post about this somewhere where the PC players don't troll too often. I personally love mass effect and minecraft, and was overjoyed to hear about the combo. I will be building countless spaceships, skyscrapers, and Reapers.
You read people attempting to slander 4J/ Mojang about the price, the way the textures were overlaid, how the music sounds, or how it supposedly "broke" survival, but ultimately what they're saying is " I couldn't come anywhere close to creating something as complex or time-consuming as a Mass Effect mash-up pack, and it infuriates me that i can't download a free one for the computer version yet"
They don't even realize that some of the money we (the consumer)are paying goes to paying Bioware for the rights to make content using their universe. Everyone on here voicing their opinion in a respectful tone proves to me that not just the crazy or mad get heard in life
I am with the OP on this one. I LOVE the mash up pack. my only complaint is not being able to turn the blocks to make designs. it would be cool if all blocks were scripted like pistons. so that the way you face determines the direction of the block when placed. won't do much for default textures, but with the ME and most likely future mash ups, it would be nice to have. other than that, I really do love the mash up and am playing in normal survival mode with great pleasure. I love that I can now spot minerals from some distance and be able to tell at a glance what they are. especially clay, gold, & iron.
gonna go on record saying the texture pack sucks massive cock.
its so lazy done, the pack is just absolute for survival, making stuff like obsidian and diamond ore still in block, looking the way it does, sucks. SERIOUSLY.
However, I haven't bought the pack yet. I'm holding out for a Halo mash-up pack and I'll decide at that time which one I like better.

sorry for the edits...i change my mind a lot.
