I had a few too many last night and made a ton of iron bars... I'm more or less a farmer, not a prison warden... Any idea what I could do with all of them? I plan on working on a village soon, maybe something there?
Make the shelter around your Nether portal (in the Nether) out of iron bars. They're essentially like a much stronger glass pane, so you'd be able to see all around you. And I'm pretty sure ghasts can't destroy them. I just use them for windows in my Nether base, otherwise I never use them.

they don't see you if you are hidden behind them, but they can destroy them.
You'd be surprised by how many uses iron fences have... in both urban and decorative sense. But in farming... perhaps used for blades in a combine harvester? Or as water tower/windmill supports. Field and farm fencing perhaps. Chicken cages?

I don't even really go into caves in fear of getting lost and then falling into lava. I don't see myself building a portal to hell anytime soon. Good suggestion though

Just remember that they're not like fences, they are exactly one block high... so everything can jump over them if you only have one block around a coop.

Which is why you make them 2 blocks high, and sink the inside floor one block deep into the ground for good measure. For some reason, the chickens never hop up to the blocks with the iron bars (at ground level). They stay down that one extra block.

I always build all my coops for all farm animals 2 deep from surface. I've had too many animals glitch through fences when only 1 deep.
How about light post for a rail line or street lamps in the village. In ravines I also use iron rails as the sides for bridges crossing the ravines. You can use them as rebar in a large structure and smooth stone as concrete.

Yes, I will use them in my breeding rooms for chickens. I call them rape factories, but yes, chicken cages.
The nether is nothing like hell but the scenery. I have more trouble avoiding creepers on the surface then doing anything else
Barbed wire fence around your farm? I find that iron bars are good for large gates or enclosures. They might also work as scarecrow poles
Or tractor windows.

I saw someone do up a BF map, and they made suspension cables with it. I think it would look cool to do up a bridge. Something else is put chimineys on all you're structures, and use it for smoke. Not sure how many you made, may need to model the brooklyn bridge or something.
Stack two of them and put netherrack on top and light it. Gives that Barbarian Kingdom feel immediately. Makes nice railings for balconies and porches too.

Always remember the early bird catches the worm....
However the flipside of that is the early worm gets clobbered!

Yep. My chicken coop is mostly iron bars.
