Basically, I had a tiny village with a few villagers. I noticed that they all had disappeared and that's the only village on my whole world. I was reading on the wiki that if you have 29 houses, villagers will spawn. Is this true? Or would I need two villagers to start with in order for them to spawn?

My condolences. You do need two to have them breed. If you do have two, you can encourage villager breeding by increasing the number of villager houses (counted by elligible doors). You can relocate villagers from another village on the map if you have one. If you do indeed only have one villager left in the entire world, then you could possibly pen him up in a safe, safe place and wait until zombie villagers are added to the game. Then, you might have the opportunity to cure a zombie villager to get your second villager and eventually repopulate your village.

One last question. Is it possible that my world only has one village? It usually seems like there's more than one village per world, but I can only find one on here.

It is entirely possible that a world only has one village. Some worlds have none.

I don't think that you can heal a zombie villager on the XBox like you can on the PC (it requires a weakness potion + a golden apple), so if you don't have any other villages, you may be out of luck.
Only alternative I can think of is to load the map in creative and spawn a couple of villagers with a spawn egg.

I'm pretty sure you'll need at least two.
