I was playing on my friends world and we discovered a very strange nether portal on top of a mountain. It had mossy stone surrounding it and lava flowing down the mountain behind the portal. There were 3 signs. One said run! The other had binary code on it and the last just had a bunch of dots on it. There were also a few jack o lanterns surrounding the portal. The strange thing is how it is set up and the fact we never got around to building a portal yet. I have never seen something like this before. Has anyone else seen something similar?
your friend must have been using a mod to get the portal itsself in his inventory, thats the only explanation i have if the portal was surrounded by a block other than obsidian, can you get a screenshot of this portal
I had to wait until my friend could get home and turn his xbox on. He's not using a mod. It's a plain survival world 7 of us are using. We traveled to a different corner of the map and found this on top of a mountain:
Hopefully those links work. The hole in front of the portal contained a pressure plate with TNT underneath it. And again we didn't build any TNT or portals yet.

It's your friend's world? He probably built it, trying to scare you. It's easy to lie when no one can see your face...

it's been explained. it's not a natural spawn. someone playing in that world built it whether they admit it or not. you did say 7 people play on that map right? well......there ya go.

A. it's not a natural/game generated occurance. a human who played on that world built it.
B. This forum regularly gets posts like this which are usually troll-baiting for herobrine (a fictional entity for which such constructions are blamed)
C. You have no other posts, which makes you suspect for trolling.
D. I only count TWO responses on this thread to you that could be construed as negative. And they're pretty mild.
The fact that the was TNT under it furthers the case that a human was hoping to trick another human.
Everybody stating that another player made it to trick you (or somebody else) is NOT insulting you. Just because you don't like the answer doesn't make it an insult.
As others have already tried to tell you, this is not a game generated structure. It has been made by someone who has played in that world. Signs, jack-o-lanterns and TNT are all blocks that, currently, must be crafted to be obtained on the Xbox (or selected out of the creative menu).
Stating that does not necessarily imply that your friend is lying to you. There is another explanation. Since you state that you are playing in a friend's world and not your own, it can be readily ascertained that this was most likely an "online game." It may well be that he did not have the game limited to "invite only" and may have even had his world open to "friends of friends." This may have been that he simply forgot or he may have intentionally left the world open for others to just join on their own. However, the downside of leaving a world open in this way potentially allows people your friend doesn't even really know to enter the world without his noticing and grief it. If this is all that happened, then I would say your friend got off lucky. Some people have inadvertently left their games open online and had entire cities griefed out of existence.

nothing like that has ever naturally spawned, nether portals don't naturally spawn.
i read about a glitch where if you went through a portal it would create another one. I'm not sure of the details, mossy cobble only occurs with dungeon mob spawners. thats why we all think its fake.

So sorry all you got were insults and not one reply to your query. I agree this board is just rotten.
If you feel so strongly that your friends didn't build this, then get the seed from him, write down the coordinates for the portal and travel there on the same seed.

Yes, 'cause they think we're ten and gullible. Personally I'm insulted.

This will be proof enough.
