Since we have a poster asking for challenges, I've decided to update this one I proposed a long time ago.. and change the point structure around a bit to reflect changes made to the game since I first posted it. I first devised this challenge to give myself a bit of boost and discourage merely hoarding items rather than using them.
To give myself a bit of a challenge boost, I decided to see how far I could get into the game (i.e. how much I could get built, how many diamonds I could find, etc.) while keeping myself limited to one double chest. The rules I'm setting for myself and point system this time around are:
1. This is designed to be a solitaire-like challenge in inventory management... so an really important thing here is to really tyr to play the game through without cheating on yourself even once. So, to begin, you must start in a brand new, randomly generated single-player world. This must be the only generation of that seed that you make (i.e. no generating a duplicate in order to find stuff in creative mode).
2. Whenever you exit the world, you must save the game (i.e. no exiting without saving to easily recoup stuff after dying or to get a better enchant).
3. No using ANY glitches you might be aware of (e.g. x-ray vision, duplication, jungle sapling, etc.)
4. Play only in survival mode. You may start the game in any difficulty level you wish; but after that point you must not change the difficulty level. (So, if you do select to start in peaceful, keep in mind, you will never have any hostile mobs spawn, including endermen... and you do need enderpearls to reach the End).
5. Whenever you leave the game, you must store EVERY SINGLE ITEM you have in the world either in one double chest (with a completely empty inventory, but you may have a full hotbar) or one single chest and your entire inventory combined. This means you have a maximum of 63 slots to store items each time you exit the game. While actively playing, you may find you temporarily exceed this and that is OK; but you must get your collections fitting into those 63 slots each time you save and exit the game.
6. You cannot use furnaces, minecarts with chests or furnaces, or brewing stands as alternative storage devices. If you must leave the game while things are "cooking", then you must leave enough open space in your chest to accommodate the items in these devices or on brewing stands.
7. You cannot leave any items you see to despawn themselves. You MUST collect them if you see them.
8. If you encounter a chest generated by the game, you must either leave all the items it has in the chest as you found them or take all the items in the chest out of it into your inventory.
9. You cannot intentionally destroy items (e.g. by tossing them out of your inventory onto the ground to despawn or in water or lava or burning netherrack, etc.). To get items out of your inventory, you must use them for their intended purposes. To accomplish this, however, you may store any blocks in the world itself rather than in a chest. (So, it's OK to build things like a mushroom storage facility or a contstrct an actual gravel pit somewhere in your world or a designated cobblestone or dirt storage facility.) Since you are playing alone, you may want to consider just not mining some of the ores until you actually need them... the diamonds you find should still be there for you if you leave them where they lie.
10. You cannot just start the world and do nothing. The goal is to play the game to its fullest extent, build big, enchant and brew and get through to the END and beyond... all in one chest.
Points (may be adjusted to suit your building preferences/style - but do make it challenging for yourself):
1. Build a home base that is at least 15 x 15 in area using a single material - 1 point. Using a combination of 3 materials or more - Add 3 points. (Different types of wood still only count as 1 material; i.e. wood). If you use either nether brick or glowstone - Add 4 points. With wool carpeting in at least two colors - Add 1 point. Fully landscaped and decorated with assorted plants and flowers - Add 1 point. (Total possible for home base = 10 points).
2. Provide villagers with effective protection from zombie sieges by making civic improvements to lighting, landscape and pathways, adding a protective perimeter wall, and causing an iron golem to spawn or building one yourself - 5 points. Make it 10 points if the village looks "pretty" and organized when you're done.
3. Build and enchantment room and enchant 3 different items - 10 points
4. Build a brewing stand and brew at least 3 different potions - 10 points
5. Build an automatic wheat farm - 15 points (Warning: Best be careful testing it. Remember, you'll need to keep all the wheat and seeds in your chest, use them up, or place them in your world before you save and exit the game).
6. Build a working mob trap or iron golem farm - 15 points (Warning: Same as for the wheat farm)
7. Make something using at least 25 sections of working redstone wiring - 20 points
8. Make a railroad at least 600 m long (but it doesn't have to be in a single direction or on a single track) - 25 points
9: Build a working city with at least 10 buildings larger than 15 x 15 - 50 points
10. Complete your end portal and defeat the Endragon - 50 points.
Complete your world without having even once succumbed to the temptation to engage in any of the little "self-cheats" most of us fall victim to at one time or another - ~ points!
... all while keeping all your supplies only in one chest!
