I call balderdash... If you were standing in a biome in an old world, it means that all the terrain in that area of map had already generated. The most that would have happened is the grass and the leaves on the trees would have turned greener and you might have seen a few ocelots spawn near you. Certainly, if you died because of it, it was because of your ineptitude and nothing to do with terrain changes regarding the update. Good for a laugh, I suppose. Try again.
he could just be correct because if he was on the edge of a chunk (unlikely) it might just have regenerated but if you were suffocating you can just mine it out and you would be fine what did you do? But like I said very unlikely.

Except, on the Xbox, the individual chunks generate while you are still some distance away from them, so this sort of thing would never happen right where he was standing regardless of whether he was standing on the edge of a chunk or in the middle of one. Once generated, the terrain would not change, so a new biome like a jungle would never appear where the terrain had already been generated even if the world had been saved and then reloaded after the update. The only way I can see anything like this happening is if the world was completely new and it had an unfortunate initial spawn point (in which case he would not have been wearing diamond armour). Quite simply, his story just doesn't add up... Hence, my conclusion that he was just trying to prank us.
