I recently made three Iron Golems in my world, but two of them have since disappeared (despawned?). The one who hasn't despawned has walked randomly about my spawn village and has stuck around. I was just wondering why this would be happening. Is it because I don't have any villagers around? Is it because I've made them on a world pre Title Update 12? Any insight would be appreciated.
unsure what would cause that, as I thought they didn't despawn...O_o
If they didn't despawn, then I can probably guess...
1. the got lost; basically wandered into a cave of some kind that they could fit in...
2. The committed accidental suicide by wandering somewhere and getting stuck with their head in a solid block.
those are the only two things I can think of if they hadn't despawned... Could have been #1 if they do however... Enough creeper blasts and enough damage to them they will eventually die anyway. of course that is quite a lot of damage...hmmm...

My First World, always getting back to is a pleasure I enjoy with each new update that brings in more things to add in.
As far as I know they don't heal so maybe they are accumulating damage over several days. My Golems seem to have an issue with 1 block deep water (village partially in water). They seem to get stuck like slimes do in 1 block of water. After several nights of golems in water not moving or defending villagers I decided to kill them and block the water off with fences. When hitting the golems in the water they couldn't/and/or/wouldn't fight back. One golem died after a single fist punch. They are usually much much harder to kill. Not sure about exactly what is happening but those are my observations.
No there is a major issue going on right now.. 4J did some kind of "Hot Fix Update" Villagers are no longer breeding in crazy Numbers and a couple days ago you could place redstone on glass and not anymore... An Iron golem farm that just yesterday produced 16 iron golems is now not working at all! We have 20 villagers secured locked away in their "pods" for breeding and Iron Golem farm purposes. Now there were only 10. Absolutely nothing could of gotten to them.. we have no griefers in my map. This phantom (TU13) update has screwed something up...

Interesting. I haven't started my game yet today and I just got my golem farm working yesterdday. Do you have an opportunity to decline this update?

Our villagers are breeding much less but iron golem grinder is still functioning well. It's producing about 4 stacks of iron in 4 to 6 hours now. Just to be cautious at night I removed a door from a house that several villagers had crowded into and block it with cobble. I don't see villagers disappearing in mass although in the beginning one village did get wiped out.
If anyone is still having this problem and it is a de-spawning issue, you could try using nametags on them. No individually named mob is supposed to de-spawn.

Um...well that would be a little difficult to do right now considering Xbox does not yet have nametags. So...until then the problem still stands.
