Now that TU12 is out, we've got this lovely Mash up option in the MC store, but no product and I haven't seen any press on just what exactly is it going to be.

Has anybody got any info?
There is no release date. 4J is waiting on legal sign offs the last we heard from them.
Edit: I feel dumb. I misread "what" as "when."
I don't think writers can even seperate the two. The Minecraft store clearly has 2 new elements. Texture Packs and MashUp packs. It should be inherently obvious what a texture pack is, and based on what we see when we load a world, we get to pick a texture pack (not a mashup pack as the idiot author of aforementioned article mis-states).
So the question is, what is a Mash Up pack since it is clearly NOT a texture pack?
Yet, thats where everyone gets their information.
If you hear it from their twitter, its coming straight from 4J
so this would probably be your best information source

A mash up pack will not only include a texture pack but also a skin pack, new music, new UI, etc, etc. It will also include a "themed world" that fits the mash up pack. Straight from 4J on their twitter...

twitter has a high signal to noise ratio as it floods with jibber jabber about everything else making it harder to find, And given that no decent journalist took the time to write an article about the new feature with these factoids, that's a darn poor way to relay information.
If you go to @4JStudios you're not getting noise you're getting a direct link to the dev team and they update promptly whenever anything is happening. Every article written about the future always is in reference to the 4J twitter posts. Disregard anyone else on Twitter regarding XBL MC. @notch and @MojangTeam are good sources for non XBL MC news.

Youdon't really get "jibber jabber" when you go to 4J's twitter. Everything they post is about Minecraft. They may post a thing here and there that doesn't realte to Minecraft, but 99.9% of their twitter is answering Minecraft questions, talking about updates, DLC, etc, etc.

I pulled up the 4j twitter link when the first guy posted it and saw a wall of jibber jabber.
When I want information, I want an ARTICLE from a reputable source, explaining it. That's a press release or a blog entry in today's world.
120 characters in the middle of 20 other "conversations" is not sufficient.
I think you're expecting to much In so little time.
I may be out of line saying this but how about
you go and enjoy TU12 for a bit instead of
worrying about Mashups. Don't get me wrong, you
have all right to ask questions but you want "Articles" and
what not when we gave you 4Js Main source for updating
Information and you don't seem very pleased.

I expect companies to publish blogs/press releases about their upcoming products./features
I expect news agencies to collect information, interview company representatives and publish articles (like this site's news section).
Mustache did the work that these entities should have done.
I don't care when Mash Ups come out, I was curious what they were about.
Since 4J's information distribution is the spew hole of Twitter, THAT is why I am not pleased. It's crap and if you've accepted crap then you have lowered your standards of information dissemination.

I'm sorry, but since when is getting information from a primary source bad? 4J's twitter is a primary source. I'd rather get it from "the spew hole of Twitter" than have to search and hope that game sites have any info (which could be wrong, or they could be speculating; I know IGN tends to perpetuate rumors quite often, so I assume others do as well).
Different strokes for different folks, I guess....

Honestly, This isn't even necessary. We've lived this far off this main resource of information, why make them work harder when everything is just fine the way it is? Oh, because one guy in the community isn't satisfied. Yeah the makes sense. How about you do this thing people have been doing since the start of time, Its called "Dealing with It."
Who cares If you're pleased or not? We've got this far without
anyone complaining about how the information source works, why change it
now? Ok, If it bothers you soooo much, How about you write a personal note to 4J and inform them of how information distribution is the spew hole of twitter. I Assure you they'll be interested in you're manner.
I'm done.

For something that "works" this forum is flooded with retards who don't know when the next Title Update is coming or what's in the next update (despite that being defined pretty clearly in a list). Sounds like a communication and information disemination problem to me.
Then, I ask ONE question that isn't commonly known or centralized to the wiki and you jump on my ass when i comment about how poor twitter is for getting information about new features is?
Gee, thanks.
At least Mustache actually answered the question and now people know the answer to a question that has never been asked on this forum as I watched for it.

I bet you feel good about yourself.
I didn't really care about the question but,
If I wanted an answer, I would have used youtube, google or TWITTER, the place where
4J answers questions from the community itself

Yeah...twitter sucks.
I was looking to see if there'd been a press release, blog entry or some wordier entry about what the intent was for MashUps.
Rather than the usual "when is it coming" discussion. The answer to that is always "when it's done."
Thus far, from the 2 articles I found (like this one http://attackofthefanboy.com/news/sneak-peak-mashup-packs-minecraft-xbox-360-edition/)

"A Mash-up Pack makes Minecraft look like another game, so Texture Pack + Skin Pack + User Interface + Music + Themed World"
"A Themed World in a Mash-up Pack is a save with a recognizable location from the game the pack is themed to."
"There are no Mash-up or Texture Packs available yet. We're waiting for legal sign-off before we can reveal the first pack."
All that info straight from Twitter. https://twitter.com/4JStudios
Thanks for hunting that up.

They do. Its simply in a different format.

Some of us like to read paragraphs with sentences and grammar.
I'm too lazy to wade through twitter. Figuring it out isn't the problem. Expecting a company to organize its communications is apparently.
