I hate having to spawn with a map every time I start a world, there isn't even a way to turn it off. Normally I'd be happy because it makes everything easier but It takes the whole point of making it useless, and whenever you play survival games you have to get everyone to throw it out. Plus how do you know if they are telling the truth that they did so? It's just annoying. 4JStudios please just let us disable it. (Also fix the biomes, that's really annoying too.)
I know it's a small thing, but those can be the worst sometimes. Also, if there is an option to turn it off somehow someone please inform me.
How can you be sure they've given up their map? Instead of having them throw the map into lava or whatever to destroy it, have them toss it to you. Then count them in your inventory. Don't allow the game to proceed until you've collected all the maps for any players that would have spawned with one.
Please note - I'm not adverse to an option to turn maps off, but I don't think it's a major issue if an option is not there either. Spawning with a map does not defeat the purposes for being able to make one. For instance, anytime you happen to die with your map on you, you may want to make another and you may want to make one while inside the nether so that you can use the coordinates in the nether to, say, refind your portal (since the coordinate work even though the arrows just spin and the nether terrain doesn't display very well).
Even if I turn off Gamertags and turn myself off on the map, they can still see the world with the map and that can also lead to cheating for certain maps.

I hate myself as much as you do
