You need lots of room in the designated spot. Even though it works with 3 high I recommend going to 5 or 6 high. Also you have to stay close but not too close in order for them to spawn in. Also light it up so no creepers skeletons etc spawn except for slimes
My slime farm is simple, but it embodies the basic elements of slime production:
I cleared out a whole chunk at bedrock level. I did just one floor -- I could have, if I wanted, kept building up, and spawning ever more slimes, but just the one floor generated as many slimeballs as I'm likely to need. The floor is dirt with jack-o-lanterns embedded in it for light. The ceiling is three blocks above that. I put in a nice glass window along one side so I can look for slimes, and of course a door to open when I want to whack them. And then I did the hard part: I went though that whole blasted chunk, from the slime farm to the surface, found every single cave, and filled or slabbed every bit of floor to keep mobs from spawning there, so all mobs were forced to spawn in my slime farm -- and, hence, to be slimes.
From what people told me, I could produce even more slimes if I likewise blocked spawning in several chunks on each side. As it is, I've got enough slimeballs for my needs for the foreseeable future, so I haven't bothered.
Anyone know?
