So basically I made a one hit kill monster XP/Supplies/Hopefully Record farm. It is a 3x8 (or maybe 4x8, or something like that) giant cube in the sky with a hole in the middle. It is very dark in there with no light. But no monsters are spawning. What am I doing wrong?

3x8......Is That The Entire Cube Or A Spawning Pad...Because You Might Be Doing It Wrong... That Thing Has Got To Be Monsterious..8X8 Spawning Pads Or Something...20X20 Cube That Be 41 Blocks From Edge To EdgeThen Dont Forget To Go Caving About 100 Blocks In Each Direction To Get Rid Of Dark Spots...you Tubers Dont Show How Much Caving They Do For There Mobdroppers Because 6Hrs Caving For 1 Mob Spawner Sometimes ISnt Enough.....KEEp Trying Youll Get it...Theres Good Ideas In These Forums So Search Away meng
Your spawning area does not sound very large. Also, you need to either trick the mobs into walking over your hole or push them into the hole with water.
The top section of my favorite record farm trap is of the same design used in this video:
It does currently work on the XBox. To get XP and records, I have shorted the distance the mobs fall to a maximum of 22 blocks. At 22 blocks, they are 1-hit kills. To get records, I block off the base such that the mobs can see me but they cannot escape the are under the trap. There are lots of different ways to block it off, e.g. fences work fine. Then, when I get skeletons and creepers in the trap together, I just run around the base of the trap just outside the point where the creeper would ignite but close enough that the skeleton will still shoot at me. Eventually, the skeleton shoots at me and hits the creeper instead.
I tried building the creeper farm but it didnt go so well -- water from one side kept leaking over the edge and flooding the creeper trap, anyone know why? The other side (I had built 2 at the time) were fine.
