At the end of 2009, I've seen a bunch of videos on YouTube about a retro looking game called Minecraft. Me being sort of nostalgic in some aspect, I said: "Dang, It's lookin' nicely, intentionally retro. I'd love to try it out."
In early 2012, I've found that the game is downloadable on XBOX Live... So I said: "Well lookit that... A game I've lookin' for has shown up on XBL..." *Downloads the game*
*2 Hours later*
Me:" Dude, this game is fantastically awesome!! I can't get enough of it!"
For a whole year would I be playing this version and then jumping on the PC version when I finally found the official link.
I played for about 4-5 months on the PC which was seriously more advanced than the XBOX360 version.
Then I thought to myself: "Hmmm... I'm getting bored of being on my own, I'll look up the servers."
Turns out 95 to 97.5% of the server I've been joining had so much add-ons that the original game experience would be ruined... You want examples? Starting out with every Diamond items would be one.
Another one would be that Creepers being killed by arrows in some server would penalize the player when the action in question is part of how to kill these walkin' powder kegs before they'd end up tearing the place away with an explosion.
Third one I'd talk about is the worst one. And it would be servers that force donations to even have a full gameplay. I donated the minimum once to a server so I could play just to find I'd be perma-banned for accidentally slashing someone who was straight in the way of me hitting a creeper to save the person in question.
Fourth and last one which I'm going to write down before I bore you guys 'ta tears is that joining a server will take forever to be trusted... I've proved myself very trustable and more often than not, I would not have permission to full gameplay because I didn't reach trusted rank.
XBOX360 edition only requires players to have good friends and put the "Invite only" option to be checked.
After that? Be cool to them and they'll return the coolness.
Sure, there may not be any
"Land Protection" or Anti-Grief plugins, add-ons nor any Mods
to change the gameplay, but to me it's clear that i'll stick to XBOX360 edition, and aim to try everything it has to offer.
Minecraft XBOX360 for the win... Ain't no one's gonna avert me from preferring it.
I really could care less about the game bein' backwards a few updates, I'd rather play it with friends than on my weak LAN.
Now that i think about it makes me not want to get minecraft when i get a good gaming PC but then you can always search for Vanilla servers that means there 100% Legit no mods or ranks of trust But xbox the only thing i dont like is that it will ALWAYS be very far behind in updates and things you can do for free on minecraft PC like skins cost $ and probably so for texture packs i hope not
Wow. You must have picked some bad servers to play on. All the servers I played on while on the PC were fun, friendly, and community driven places. The admins and moderators would let you go about your business however you saw fit as long as you followed the server rules.
One server I remember better than any other. when you started, you had to read all the rules before being allowed to play. Once you were done, you were free t go out and mark out anywhere you wanted in the world to claim as your own. They ran events like a mob arena where people could fight mobs while others watched. They ran games and contests like scavenger hunts, siege the castle type games, fishing tournaments, archery contests, etc, etc. They had a player run store area where you could buy or sell blocks to other people. Nearly everyone was friendly. Those who weren't were warned and eventually banned if they didn't change their tune. It was probably the best time I ever had on the PC version.
There are millions of servers for the PC version. You can't judge the entire multiplayer experience off of a few that you played on. That would be like judging the entire human race based on a single person.
I like the more personal friends only style of play on the Xbox. The larger servers on the PC simply don't appeal to me and I have zero interest in even trying them out. This sounds close minded, but I don't have to try everything out first-hand to decide that I like what I've already tried sufficiently to stick with it. Some people like large crowds and some people don't, I'm the latter.
That doesn't mean I'm dissing how certain large servers run. No doubt, there are both good ones and bad ones out there. However, I think it's great that the Xbox offers an alternative (something different) than what the large PC servers offer... and that alternative suits me just fine. I think that there was a demand for smaller, more intimate play on the PC as well... hence, the evolution of Realms for the PC.

But you also have to remember that 4J has to make the skins and texture packs themselves since Microsoft won't allow the community to like they can on pc

I'd be friggin' happy if Minecraft was to be released on PS4 once 4J's X360 exclusivity term ends... It ain't impossible IMO.

This is exactly the reason I haven't tried the PC version at all. I shy away from PC games in general because of all the add-on, mod, cheats, and hacks. Plus I tend to keep my XBL friends list reduced to trustworthy people that are fun to play with. Unfortunately 95% don't play MC so I'm stuck in my own world, but at least it's "safe" when I want it to be.
I'm not going to argue with you about your own preferences. Though, I think you are a little misguided. Tons of servers exist out there that are un-modded; and lots of servers with plugins don't badly effect the game play. Many different play styles exist, thus the variety. For example, the faction plugin, if anything, is based off teamwork.
XBOX360 edition only requires players to have good friends and put the "Invite only" option to be checked.

I'm not going go into more detail, since one again, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, though I'd advise you take another look at the PC scene. Besides, the reason that servers have added to the game is to make it better; it did not happen because the PC version of the game is poorly made, it was because those who wanted otherwise were a minority.
I only played on PC once or twice and usually in my own world (not online). Since we got it on xbox I am playing all the time, mostly in my own world but occasionally with friends online. I don't know why I like the xbox better. I don't really think I gave the PC version much of a chance to be honest. My son was banned by a server - he has Aspergers and his almost non-existent social skills got him in trouble. I got him his own server to play with his friends online and the power went to his head a bit :/ Not sure of the point I was trying to make here - I like xbox better?!?
I'm nearly the opposite. Not that I dislike the Xbox version mind you as it's pretty damn good for what it is I just find it quite limiting at times. I have my own vanilla (other than Optifine and Rei's) solo world on PC, play on my friend's vanilla server, and also have a solo FTB world when I really feel like playing with mods. All that combined with the Xbox version for those times I can't hop on the computer or am otherwise too lazy to is honestly the best of both worlds.

I agree with a lot of what you said; but I actually think I would find the presence of so many mods available on the PC "limiting" in its own way. Limiting players into thinking if it's not available in a mod, it's not attainable in some way through imagnitive use of the vanilla tools and shaping entire servers into specifically limiting storylines complete with tomes of "server rules" to read. That combined with the fact that this mod and those mods don't work with each or on certain configurations of systems and you need this certain mod or that mod to play on this server or that server, I think causes a lot of hassles and roadblocks that would ultimately inhibit my style of play.
So, what's my style? Well, spending months and months and months building a supposed "utopia" on an "infinite world really just doesn't interest me. My prefered style of video gaming is to just sit down with a group of friends in my livingroom for an hour or so and just, rather mindlessly, play a fun game - a game even 3-year-old can have fun playing. I have no issues with never returning to a world again after we decide the "game" for that session is done and a winner is declared (if we even want to declare a winner).
The PC and the Xbox currently have appeal for different styles of gamers. Isn't it great that we all have alternatives?

I'm never playing guardian again!
You can't say all servers are bad
from the few you were on
There is always the option to make
your own server
