im working on a large world build, and Ive decided to terraform a large mountain range, the style ofr the build is steam punk exaggerated architecture. like steampunk wonderland. so ill of course be doing some crazy exaggerated mountains spiral mountains inverted spires. but honestly i have no idea where to start. im a structure and detail guy. terraforming is all about the larger picture and how it looks when it all comes together.
so any advice. help inspiration. is appreciated.
basically what makes minecraft mountains awesome. what makes mountains awesome. so any ideas. pics suggestions or tips on terraforming would be greatly appreciated.
No MTNS where you live? I guess it depends on the type of mountain. Do you want Big Island Hawaii? Or. How bout Mt.Hood,Oregon? Mt. St. Helens, which blew its top several years ago, is a couple of miles North. Want a nice bike ride? Review the Tour de France, and have a gander at the Alps and Pyrenees. And don't forget all the great mountain ranges in Free Tibet.

there are but not close. and my maps superflat. so none there. i plan on doing research but the more info and resources i have to draw from the better cause terraforming is not my forte.
I wish I could help you there because I'm also planning to start a kind of floating mini-city with a few upside-down mountains (or rather hills) with buildings on top of them, connected with bridges. The best idea I had so far was to get "inspired" by BioShock Infinite. Even if you happen to not own the game, the internet is full of screenshots. Hope that helps a bit.

yea i love the bioshock world. havent played infinite yet though. i planning a floating city island as well. and another will be held in place on the back of a giant steam powered colossus.
im a terribl terraformer ive done a few things that are ok, but im all about patterns and little details.
im planning some spiral mountains. a few arches. an inverted spire. and a few other things. its just tough getting my head wrapped around the big picture.
Keeping an eye on the big picture is a huge problem for me. I always get distracted by small and often unimportant details.
Slightly off-topic: If you liked BioShock 1 and/or 2, you're going to love BioShock Infinite.
im right there with ya. sometimes it works out when your dealing with patterns. but when your talking about natural near random structures that are supposed to flow seamlessly but have n pattern. its a pain.

You just told the answer to yourself man, just do it random and when you are almost finished start doing the small details
not really. things are seemingly random. nothing in nature is truely random. i don't want to go into chaos theory and tectonic science, but all things fallow some sort of order. so random is only how we see the big picture.
but without the big picture in mind then more often then not it will come out looking hideous. trust me ive tested a few times. im just trying not to waste my time building destroying then re building mountains.
Just start making random mountains in another world then pick your favorite then try your best to replicate it in your steam punk world. Also i am making a world similar to yours and i want to ask you, how long did it take for you to clear that area of land in your world and place water into it?

i started on super flat. cause its super.. and flat..... like my ex... burn. lol jk jk.. i used the water fill method. were you fill one edge then the next adjacent edge and it will fill up your map.
yea im just googling mountains, minecraft and real, some art too. i used to play magic the gathering and a few of the cards look pretty awesome.
i was hoping for some feedback and tips from the terraforming pros. like tips of the trade. its really slow going im trying to make mountans that are unique and fallow none of the rules of minecraft while still looking like minecraft mountains.
its very difficult to explain what i want it to look like in the end. since i cant really visualize it at the moment.

Well i am making a river so its going to take much longer than your method, and if you need idea's for a Minecraft mountain just tell me what the mountain has to possibly look like and i'll quickly build it and get it ready by tomorrow or search for one and get it ready by an hour or less. Anything to help a fellow builder.
by mountain its a mountain range. lol. but any ideas you wanna throw at me. anything you make that looks cool please do post it up. or send it to me in some way.
its going to be a massive mountain range that will encircle the first city. partially i just want something to create a cool background and to cover up the outer edge of the map which is slightly visible. it goes from being an ocean to being grass lol.
some of the ideas i have are an arch that will flow from the mountain. a few eroded spires. a spiral mountain. and some water falls of course. there may be a crescent bay if i have room.
theres also gonna be an arship dock on the other side of the city as well.
so any advice. help inspiration. is appreciated.
