What is your strategy for killing them with a sword? I can never get close enough to do that.
EDIT: I guess a better question was if you do something different than just hit the fireballs back at the ghast.
if they are flying over lava then it can be a little tricky but for the most part you just need to get close to them.. they will fly down to you a lot of times or, if you are a maniac like me, you can scale walls and use cobblestone to get up to their level to give them a cuban necktie
protip: the ghasts fireballs cant destroy cobblestone and their tears taste like sprite

I very much prefer taking things on at range where in most cases I'm more or less safer than I'd be with a sword. Bow also has the added benefit of being able to deal with ghasts and such much easier (also my preferred wep for dealing with creeps) whereas a sword is far riskier assuming you can even get close enough to deal damage. It's true that looting is a damn good enchant on sword though and in some cases has the better damage enchants. Personally I prefer the bow, as stated before, however objectively I'd consider them about even.
Yeah I just watch them until they fly low and I stay right under them. Pretty easy when the Nether that generates isn't completely wide open, sometimes ghasts will spawn in smaller areas making it rather simple.
I like bows for more dagerous things like creepers and zombies. However I would like them a lot if the cold hit endermen... But swords have there uses, like endermen and taking things out fast
i actually have chests full of arrows because i have no use for them

Once you get enough skill to win a bow fight over 50 blocks away you will begin to love the bow
No charge time? Lol
Yes but if it has charge time it would be exactly the same as the bow but with more charge time and maybe a little more damage.
Anyway minecraft doesnt obeys RL rules, why would have to obey them with the crossbow?
