Okay so I am generally aware of how slime traps work as I've had quite a few without an issue, but for some reason the latest one I have is not acting as it's supposed to.
I've calculated the slime chunks and everything, it's literally directly under my house so me being too far for them to spawn isn't an issue, it's three layers up, each layer is three blocks high starting from level for and I believe ending at level fourteen. It's about two chunks wide on each layer. But yet, zero slimes.
I guess my concern is that I am so close to the world cut off, so maybe that is part of the issue. But I know mobs can spawn down there because before I lit it up, I was getting blown up left and right by some nice creeper friends. It is fully illuminated, not more than 70 blocks from me and there are no mobs around when I am in it, what could possibly be the issue?
The only other thing I can think of is if you're using torches on the floor of your slime trap. I keep all the light for my slime floors on the ceiling and just keep the floor solid stone. There has been some disagreement on the forums as to whether or not slimes will spawn if there are torches on the floor, but I've always figured - why take the chance? It's easy to put glowstone in the ceiling and only slightly more roundabout to put up jack-o-lanterns if you don't have glowstone.
ETA: Another thought is that you may have spaces within your slime chunk but not within your farm where slimes may still spawn. If you're not incorporating layers 1 through 40 into your slime farm, you are better off making sure that slimes cannot spawn on those layers where you won't see them spawning.

Yes I've heard about the lighting. I have not gotten any glowstone yet due to this being a fairly new world but I've kept the majority of my toches on the higher part of the walls and only some on the floors. They still spawn if there aren't many, I've done it before. But not in the vast amounts that they would if you have none on the floor. Thanks for the help. I'll keep trying.
I've just built a small waiting area about thirty blocks away on the first layer. Hopefully this helps too haha.
Slimes can spawn on jack-o-lanterns. They are considered solid blocks. They will not spawn on glowstone ("transparent" block) or torches. Now that we can farm pumpkins, sinking jack-o-lanterns into the floor in a grid pattern is probably the best illumination idea. My slime-spawning area predates pumpkin farming, so I'm using glowstone on the ceiling.

That might possibly be your issue. I had a world where my base was at world edge and the nearest slime chunk was the last chunk available. Nothing I did could get slimes to spawn there. Moved to another area of the map and had no problems getting them to spawn in a different chunk.

Yeah I'll take note of that next time because I literally set up everything so perfectly and nothing spawned at all. So I just started a new world hahaha.

The only other cave near it isn't even in the slime chunk and is fully illuminated as well.
