This is the 4th world I've lost since April. 3 of those worlds Ive worked extremely hard on. This most recent one was my most successful. I had a chest filled with diamonds and gold and iron. This morning I was playing on that file, i saved and went to play some other games on the xbox. Went back to minecraft a few hours later and the world won't load.
Ive contacted mojang and 4J about this because this bug needs to be fixed. I've even gone to my hard drive and deleted the title update but every time I go to play minecraft it would tell me i couldnt play unless i downloaded the update again.
Does anyone else have a solution? Im sick of losing these worlds. Im about to switch over to the PC version pronto.
From what I've heard, deleting your update files will NOT fix a file load issue; in fact, touching a file in a later update then trying to load it under a previous version will most likely corrupt your file even worse.
Do you ever reuse names for your worlds? Supposedly there used to be a bug on the computer related to reusing world names; not sure if that bug exists on the Xbox version or not, though. Last time I ran into file corruption issues I had several "New World" saves, as well as just a lot of saves in general. After talking to my friend (who plays PC edition and told me about that bug), I never leave "New World" as the file name (I at least add a number, like "New World2") and I always delete files I'm not using. I'm not sure exactly where the bug is, but I have not run into it again. So, I hope that helps!
Backups. Absolutely. I have 3. The reason for 3 is so that I can keep backups from 2 dates, plus a "control" backup so that I can tell which is the most recent (by comparing thumbnail images, since very sadly the date on your save files is stuck at creation time). It's important to have 2 backup dates at least, because if your world file gets corrupted, then you back it up before you realize it, the backup becomes corrupt as well (totally negating its usefulness). In this sad situation, you would need to revert to the older backup.
And this is a prime example of why we make back ups.
Which is why 4J should let us copy our worlds again. I miss that whhen they 1st added the rename world feature, but it doesn't work any more. Having a copy button would be better. I've experienced so many bugs in the latest update, I'm surprised I haven't heard of this until now. The closest thing to losing a save file I had was when I saved by a mob spawner. When you load a game saved nearby a mob spawner, the game crashes on the loading screen sometimes, but not all the time. It makes it harder to work on any XP Farms using dungeons, etc. though.

You can copy your world. Just save it on multiple storage devices.

That the number one rule.
