I play a TON of survival and no creative. I have built what I and my friends think to be amazing worlds. But the problem lies within the fact that I wonder if its actually 'amazing' or just tier 1 in my group of friends. What do you think makes a survival map stand out?
I have things like huge castles, spider, skeleton, zombie, slime, and enderman farms, huge castles, libraries, MOB Spawners, big ass farms, but that's all been done before. Not sure if anyone's done it all on one survival map. But it's been done.
What makes a survival map awesome?

For me, that's easy - It's like a photo album. What makes it most amazing are all the memories it holds making it with your friends and family. The rest is just pixels.

I really like that idea. I'm offline still (on my phone now) but I'll have Internet again next month. Start taking pictures again.

Playing in creative mode just ruins the hole point of Minecraft because in survival you cant cheat and you can actually play the real game and not just get what ever you want and its not a challenge and thats the hole point of Minecraft.

i really like when people have lots of different structures and they have a purpose.. not just 'this big vacant castle', 'this big building that has no use', etc

I do have 1 giant vacant Asian house, and a castle I'll be turning into my home, my old castle will probably become an arena. But yea pointless empty buildings is creative style lol

I'd say its age and sentimental value.
My 1.6.6 world (TU0?) had so many things, and I never ran out of things to do.
Even though it got bombed in I think TU5 due to that renaming glitch, I still think it's "awesome" since it held many memories and I enjoyed almost every moment of it.

My World 1 was like that. It really wasn't all that, just me learning and experimenting with new archetypes, playing with friends and generally screwing around. If it wasn't accidentally deleted by my 9 year old I'd still play on it. Same with the Christmas town.

One problem with Minecraft's survival mode, generally speaking, is after you get situated your not so much "surviving" as much as you are "living".
A good survival map starts you off with the odds against you and 10hrs into playing you still find yourself living pay check to pay check, struggling to make ends meet.

That's how it is I think. After a certain point it's like creative to me.

Yup. If you spawn in with a group of friends, the initial survival wave takes 2-4 hours before you are all pretty well set with separate houses, farms, etc in a secure village.
After that, anything else you do is just getting fancy, because there is no risk, unless you choose to undertake it.
It's pretty much 50% buildings and 50% memories and fun you had or have with the survival world. You can only make it more 'awesome' if you were to add on to those memories and fun and buildings.
Well, that's what would make a survival more awesome to me.
Oh man. This just makes me think of when I first played Minecraft and literally just lived in a village and made the house two story, but it was literally the biggest piece of crap you'd ever see out of anybody and I could not for the life of me figure out how an enchantment table worked and I never played off peaceful. There is no sentimental value to me there, just embarrassment.
I agree with everybody. It almost makes survival like an adventure that you take as far as you want. Like on my world 2 I planted a sapling and it insta grew and smothered me. My friend goes 'Nobody touch that tree!' Runs inside and makes a fence and a sign, comes back out and puts up a fence and a sign saying 'the only one to beat game 1v1 in Minecraft.' Moments like that/that tree are worth more than the castle I built. Or watching my friend armored taco screaming and running from 7 zombies because he fell into a spawner while mining and his armor was broken in all pieces but the helmet. Great, great times.

This right here. Any decent survival player can build all the structures needed to "tame" the wilds of Minecraft, but its memories like these that make the experience of creating a survival map priceless.
