SO, If you place a bed in the middle of nowhere and put torches around it, you won't get attacked? That doesn't seem right. I've done this 4 nights in a row so far. This a bug right?
Even though I know this works and have done it I still don't feel comfortable so I make sure I have a sword in hand and double check (visual scan) the surronding area for bad guys. Then sleep and as soon as I wake I hop up and jump around like a bunny rabbit on red bull to make sure a creeper hasn't done a sneak attack.
Dig some cobble, cut some wood... make a sword and slay the mobs. In a single night, I can EASILY gain 10-15 levels of XP just by slaying/shooting mobs.
Actually what is happening is that you sleep very fast so mobs dont have the chance to spawn, so you dont need the torches...
if you do that but when you go to sleep the moon is somewhat high then you will be in trouble because you gave the oportunity to the mobs to spawn.
If you sleep right after the message "you can only sleep in the night" you will be fine.
Another way of sleeping outside is making a floating bed and sleep in there (when you wake up you will take fall damage so dont do it so high)
And the most secure way to ensure no one will attack you is to dig a hole put the bed and close the hole.
BTW: it is NOT a bug...
Thats pretty much it.
When you go to sleep as soon as possible, it's not dark enough for monsters to spawn yet. The game basically skips the night to dawn, when you wake up.
The game used to check a two(?) block radius around your bed. If any of those blocks is a legal spawn point for a monster, then a monster would spawn right next to your bed and attack you (note that if your bed was next to a wall, with unlit area outside the wall, the monster would spawn inside your house next to you, not in the unlit block that proved to be a legal spawn point . . .)
Not sure, but it also seems like if it was late enough in the night, it wouldn't do the "nightmare" check; however, I didn't start playing Minecraft until disc version for Xbox, so all of my info is second hand . . .
This is a video of the first version for Xbox; he encounters some nightmares near the end of the video.
yep, that is correct, depending on how your house was built and double doors etc, then there was a chance of being wakened during your sleep by a zombie or skeleton. not nice getting hurt as soon as you wake up.
was sort of glad it changed but it might be nice to have that back in hard mode at some point
I remember 4J saying that was an actual bug. If your structure is lit up but your bed was next to a wall it would sometimes do that.
IMHO. It definitely is a bug. No point in making a safe structure if it isn't...safe.
lol, so happy nightmares is gone, super annoying not being able to sleep in a fully lit house haha. Anyway back to the thread, soon as its sundown i place a bed and spam it with the left trigger till it lets me sleep, no hostile mobs. It wouldnt be hauge problem fightimg them when youve played that world a ot (at least for me). Ive got little shacks here and there and full diamond armour

As long as nothing angry is nearby, you'll be fine.
And the mid-air platforms don't work since nightmares were removed~
Stay fluffy~
I usually dig a hole and bury myself for the night. Haha.

Thus, no monsters in the area.

But yeah, like everyone else said. Doing it before the mobs can come out at night is probably the main reason you are sleeping so safely.
