Okay, so I decided to build a mob trap in my world but its spawning very few mobs. It spawns like 5-8 mobs during the day and rarely through the night. The mob trap is more than 30 blocks away from my house and I lit the area around the trap but not the caves around it. Any help to make this spawn alot of mobs ? All help is greatly appreciated .

There's your problem. with unlit caves in the area, the bulk of the mobs are spawning inside the caves rather than inside your trap. The more you light up, the more mobs inside your trap you will get.
Also, it's not really the distance from your house that matters, but the distance the trap is from you or another player. Mobs will not spawn within 28 blocks of a player, so if you have other players standing nearer that trap than that, it will stop functioning until they move out of range. However, is you're usuing a spawner, then a player must be standing within 16 blocks of the spawner in order to activate it.
UpUp nailed it. It looks at the entire chuck which is from Y0 to Y128 so even if it is all lit up on the surface, if there is a big cave system, ravine, etc below it... that counts against your spawn. I've also personally seen it take several chunks AROUND the monster trap to make it efficient.
I tested this on a creative world built on a superflat map. Made a simple gravity drop trap. During the day it ran awesome. At night it stopped. I had the chunk around the trap lit up and nothing spawning there but no dice. I systematically lit up 16x16 squares around the trap and as I did so, my spawn rate improved. The first "ring" of 16x16 areas around the trap improved spawn rate about 50%. I had to put a SECOND ring outside of that to get it near 100% and ended up doing a THIRD ring to finally get it full bore.
First ring would put lit area 16 blocks around all edges of the trap. Second ring 32 blocks. Third ring 48 blocks. I just lit the edges of the 16x16 with glowstone to make a giant grid [I was on creative mode so, why not?].
Hope that helps! They seem to have changed something within the past few TUs on spawning because an older mob trap I have that used to run insanely fast [double towers, multiple levels, funneled into one] runs at maybe 25% of what it used to. It was on a map I hadn't played for awhile so not sure when that change actually happened. Oh and that map is mostly snow now but that is a different story. Heh.
Yeah, you'll know you did your part when it comes to lighting caves.. when you go to your trap and it's producing like you'd like it to.
I suggest just go mining and eventually you'll light up the place.. It's annoying to go caving for the purpose of lighting caves.. I've done it.
