i noticed the PC version has adventure mode and the 360 doesn't, what is the purpose of adventure mode and how does it differ from survival
and are we likely to get it in future updates ?

This is what the WIKI says Adventure mode is a game mode intended for player-created maps by limiting some of the gameplay in Minecraft, in which the player cannot directly destroy most blocks to avoid spoiling adventure maps or griefing servers. Most blocks cannot be destroyed without the proper tools (axe:wood; pickaxe:stone). However, players can still interact with mobs and craft items.
It's more of a mode for map makers.. rpg maps and such!

Things to consider out of what overlooked said:
adventure mode on PC is handy when I make the world map (via creative), give it to you, and then you play it in Adventure mode
OR
I make the map (in creative) and host it, and everybody else plays on it without any permissions to do anything.
Only the latter is possible on the MC360, and we can do it without a formal "Adventure" mode by restricting guest rights.
I agree with Janx. We already have some of the options the adventure mode offers on the PC. The host can control whether or not individual guest players can mine blocks, interact with chests, etc.by turning "Trust Players" off and then enabling the various individual options (e.g. "Can Build and Mine"; "Can Use Doors and Switches"; "Can Open Containers"; "Can Attack Players"; "Can Attack Animals" and "Moderator"). What is perhaps missing would be the ability to pass on some of the Host Privileges (such as flying, disabling exhaustion and invisibility) onto other non-host players if the Host wants to pass those duties off onto another player. This has probably been set up that way because, on the Xbox, the world cannot be loaded online unless the host is in the game.
The other thing, of course, that is missing, is the ability for us to outright share a map with other players by allowing them to download it to their Xbox. I'm sure some of that has to do with concerns Microsoft has over allowing map files that have potentially been "hacked" to get distributed through the Live network, perhaps resulting in other viruses and such infiltrating their system. Whether they will ever allow this sort of map sharing option is an unknown at this point in time.
