* The idea that you can use a "MC edit" type program is totally out of the question. Only a very few of the 6 million users know how to use it. It would have to be so the user doesn't have to do anything and conversion is 'automatic'. I wouldn't be surprised if more than a few have trouble saving their 360 world to a stick and moving it over to the One!
* I can see the threads now: "My buddy made a world on his One, can I play it on my 360?" Ah, NO.
* Putting it all on the cloud and let both platforms play along together. Isn't that called MC Realms(?), cause that's how it would work.
* It's gonna be interesting to see if 4J can actually do a "360>One world conversion" program considering that there's different game programming, platforms, OS's, and (probably) file save types involved. You can come up with all the "they could"s you want, but can they? If they can, great! If not, oh well, they tried.
I guess we'll find out, at up to $60 (and $500 for the console) just how important bigger worlds are.
The most simple way to do this, would set up the game to use the old world, but have a seperate function to do so, but they would need to add an update to the 360 version, that would add a text file or something to the save that says something and the xbox one version would read that know its a 360 save, then not let world generation happen out of the 1000x1000 section, very simple idea, plus wont take long to code into the xbox one version.
Sounds more complicated than just letting it carry on generating to be honest.
People are making this more complicated than it needs to be.
Stick a flash drive into your Xbox 360, load your worlds onto it and stick it into an Xbox One. start Minecraft on your Xbox One. It would likely auto detect thee old saves and ask if you wanted to convert them. If you say yes, it would likely convert the 360 saves to Xbox One save format. Once you would load the world, it would generate everything already done on the 360. Once you reach the edge of the 360 world, it would then just begin generating again.
That easy. The console would do all the work. They could build the save transfer/formatting/converting into the Xbox One Edition of Minecraft. also, 4J and Microsoft are still looking into the save transfer. The article about how it was "confirmed" that they weren't going to isn't actually confirmed.

I was checking some online stores for Xbox one games and noticed Minecraft is listed as $59.99, just curious if any confirmation on this? If its true I still will be buying it but it better have a lot more to offer!
They don't have a real price for it yet. It probably wont be $60. They do that with all games if it isnt for a while.
and you are making it far too easy, if it was that simple then the games would also work on the ONE and they dont
No I'm not. Saves are easy to convert. The reason games won't be backwards compatible on the Xbox One is because it has a completely different system architecture. Making the Xbox One backwards compatible would have increased production costs and made the price of the system go even higher because the would have to esentially build an Xbox 360 inside the Xbox One to emulate the 360.
It would much easier for them to just convert the data from the save into whatever save format the Xbox One uses. Just like how the PC worlds were converted from the old world generation to the ANVIL generation when it came out.

im not saying use mc edit itself(the exact program). something more user friendly. but more to the point what i was thinking was something more like file shares for halo. you can upload. download and share things on your console. and also on your pc. and your live account is linked and its linked across all the games. seems like bungie and 343 paved the way now 4j and MS just have to figure out how to convert the worlds..... which should be rather simple. as long as we are only talking map data. since blocks are given a numerical code and designated that way by the game all they would have to do is create a plugin that would convert those block codes to the current ones and then upload it then generate the missing terrain. this would be a one time thing then after you save it it will be stored in its new ONE format. now chest and player inventory might be another story all together.
and i doubt seriously they would connect both consoles so they could play together. they are just too different. and if they did that would limit what the ONE version could do since it would either have to run massive amounts to host the 360 version or it would have to be dialed back so the 360 could keep up.
again what im thinking is a fileshare concept that allows you to DL other peoples maps, you can share them. host pictures in your fileshare (instead of via FB). things like that. and possibly this would be a step towards server hosted worlds for groups that want to have worlds always online... .who knows though.
hopefully no one will be.... let me be as nice as possible... a complete moron (seriously im being nice) and think they can host an Xbox ONE worlds on the 360... i doubt the console could run the conversion software itself let alone the larger worlds.
How does this indicate that games will be about $10 more? The current Microsoft recommended price (MSRP) for the games they produce (first-party games) is $59.99. The MS rep is confirming that Microsoft will continue to recommend a price of $59.99 for the games that Microsoft produces. That is not $10 more, it is the same as it is for the Xbox 360 first-party games. In addition, Minecraft is not a Microsoft first-party game. It is essentially a third-party game, originally written by Mojang and produced for Xbox by 4J Studios. Therefore, I really don't think this announcement applies to Minecraft although some stores do seem to listing a pre-order price of $59.96. However, I doubt that Mojang and 4J would expect to be able to sell it at a price way more expensive than the PC version unless it is waaay more advanced than the PC version - and the trailer doesn't indicate that it is.

exactly. as long as we aren't talking running a full game and its mechanics and we are just talking raw save data its very simple... it would be not as simple to make it backward compatible. but its possible. even now they would just have to patch in the emulators (thanks for reminding me what they are called. i couldn't remember and it was driving me crazy) and they'd have to patch the console for each game. itd be a hassle. but they could do it. itd take a bit more ram to run old games but considering there's 8 gigs in the ONE and the 360 only has 512 mbs i think wed be ok.

The Xbox One would have to be built with an emulator. If it could be patched in, then Sony could easily have made the later PS4 models backwards compatible. Microsoft has already said it was to save money and to help drop the cost of the system.
Even if it is $59.99 we don't know if it will make us buy it again if you link your profile from 360 to one. Considering the size of the maps that I've heard about I could care less, I rather pay the lower price but I would pay either way. - Staticraft
No they're not. Microsoft would only give away 6,000,000+ free copies of a game if hell froze over.
*snip*
Not a very good argument, considering the recent issues with Xbox Live are probably related to the fact that they are currently giving away Assassin's Creed II . . . for free! (to Gold members at least).
Besides, this would not be Microsoft's call - they don't own the IP.
*Sigh* Another game I won't be able to afford. (Along with the system.)
Sorry to be a bit harsh, but did you read the thread? At all? Very unlikely the sixty dollar price is anything other than a place holder at this point.
Doesnt bother me because im not getting the new xbox im switching to PC i can buy a decent gaming PC for $500
That can play minecraft with texture packs mods and on 1.6

Yeah, I'm with you there. Just don't see anything about the Xbox One that makes me want to get it, and getting the PC version of Minecraft, along with a gaming PC, would all be cheaper.
Honestly, I wouldnt mind restarting i would have 5+ years to work on fresh new worlds. All this "I wanna transfer my worlds" has nothing to do the original topic of the games price anyway

Huge difference. All the games they're giving away for free now are quite old already, and they're giving it away for what can be considered a "dying platform".
Besides, this would not be Microsoft's call - they don't own the IP.
Yes, it would be Microsoft's call. The game runs on their platform and it uses their infrastructure to provide online play, patches, and DLC. While they probably can't charge whatever they want and certainly won't charge 60 bucks (that's really just a placeholder), it's ultimately still Microsoft that sets the price.

Huh, what? Microsoft charges their licensing fee for any game sold for their consoles and labeled as officially compatible. Nothing I've heard anywhere says Microsoft sets the price. Even in the case of Minecraft, they are just publishing it; 4J and Mojang still get their cut, and logically would get a voice in the price.
