Let me just clarify that the world sizes currently are just fine (IMO), and I have no problems with it what so ever.
But I was wondering if that, in a future title update, would a slightly bigger world be possible? Maybe pushing past the 1024x1024 limit a little farther? (2024x2024? Maybe higher?)

Also, seeing as the new update brings in the Anvil format, and thus increases the height limit on building, wouldn't it be possible to have more space width wise?

Let's look at this mathematically. The area of a world 1024 x 1024 is 1,048,576 sq. blocks. The area of a world 2024 x 2024 is 4,096,576 sq. blocks. What you are proposing is hardly a "slight" increase... it's a 290% increase in the area size of the world (and much more if you properly calculate the volume). I doubt a truly slight increase would make any appreciable difference for anyone.
As mcxaddict explained, the switchover to ANVIL improves the game's ability to store air blocks, not the multitude of other "substance" blocks in the game. This enables them to double the height of air in the game without doubling the amount of RAM that the game needs to run. But the increase you're proposing would increase the number of substance blocks in the game significantly... and probably result in the game being unable to run on the Xbox 360.
Yes, I now see how I over-egged my calculations somewhat.
In MCRegion format the entire chunk volume is stored in one piece, whereas in Anvil format the increase in height will be negated by not having to store data for any empty Sections.
I found this {link} which plots block counts for different blocks types at each height. It may be useful if you were so inclined to calculate a more accurate estimate of unused Sections. I'm not too fussed as I will probably not go above the current limit on SMP.
I remember hearing Etho say he would not build his sky spawner above Y128 as it would cause too much strain on the game. The wiki warns: "If you have a slow computer or OS is 90% full or more, venturing into a jungle may crash Minecraft, or worse, your computer." I wonder if this will apply to the now dated Xbox hardware.
Oh gosh, I can see how you might have thought that I was assessing your calculation. Honest, when I first posted, I hadn't even seen it yet. I had calculated it wrongly myself and just decided to go with area instead of volume... so it was really a self-criticism on my own abyssmal math abilties.
Haha don't worry, it's np. I have had exactly the same thing happen to me before. I find it difficult to communicate via written language, even at the best of times, and baring that in mind I try to employ the benefit of the doubt when reading others words.
When I wrote "Yes", I meant it as a kind of "eureka" exclamation, as I could see the flaws in my own figures.
I'm looking forward to Jungles so I really hope the Xbox is up to it.
Namaste
I'm also really looking forward to jungles. I had almost given up hope that they could implement ANVIL and double the height of the map... and thereby give us jungles. I was sort of thinking that all the delays meant they couldn't do it... But now they have confirmed that we do get all of that, so it's all good in my book.
The info about how ANVIL works does cause me to post a question... Currently, when you first load up a map, only the chunks around you get uploaded... then as you explore the area farther around you, the terrain fills in from bedrock to sky limit. Does this now mean that you could conceiving explore the surface without causing the subterrain to fill in?

Even in ANVIL, chunks still load from bedrock to the sky. The sky being 256 instead of 128 like it is now.
your asking for 3 times the size ??....thats hardly slightly
facepalm.................
Sir, sir... no need for your facepalming. Twas an example. And I'm not asking for it to be increased, but if it was a possibility. (Which is, probably no from the replies I've read this morning.)

Thank goodness the Earth is round or we'd have a bunch of people banging on The Wall.
A "larger" world size would do nothing and not make you happy.
You'd still think you ran out of resources.
You'd still wouldn't have enough space.
You'd still complain that you've 'explored it all'.
Even if you had 'unlimited everything'… some people would gripe about that.
If you had more world space you would be able to have more valuable resources like diamond, and etc.
But can you honestly say that you have discovered every diamond that has spawned in your current world? Asking for more before you've run out is a sure sign that you just won't be satisfiable nomatter what size the world becomes.
In addition to the multitude of diamonds that already exist in your world that you just haven't found yet, more diamonds are available to you. You just have to press the right buttons to get them - 1) you can start as many different new worlds on your system as your hard drive will hold; and 2) you can go into creative mode and select them from the creative mode inventory. That you won't use these options available to you is your problem... not a problem with the world size. In the end, it's all just pixels... and the really limited resource is the Xbox's processing power and RAM.
Honestly, you don't need a bigger width for resources. My friends play minecraft on xbox (PC Edition ftw) and I always hear them talking about how they found 30+ diamonds in every caving journey they go on. It's easier to find diamonds on xbox because of the fact that world width is shorter. Aside from that, I would actually like to have a gigantic sort of "island". Use some creativity and turn it into a big island city. But in "medical terms" Xbox just doesn't have as much storage as PC's, so it would probably be much laggier with an expanded world width.
I'm not sure people understand how much the Xbox 360 Edition's small worlds actually contains when it comes to the number of blocks.
Our chunks are currently 16x16x128. That means a single chunk contains 32,768 blocks (including air). There are around 400 chunks (I think. Quick guesstimation looking at the numbers) on the Xbox 360 Edition worlds so that means the game is rendering somewhere around 1,300,000 blocks per world. That is 1.3 million blocks that can be changed, moved, destroyed, etc, at any time. Not to mention the additions the player makes. Depending on how much you build you can end up adding even more blocks to a world than it started with.
The system is already struggling to run the game with 512MB of RAM and Minecraft is extremely taxing on teh Xbox 360s processors. As nice of a console as the 360 is, it is nearly a decade old.

My guess would be that they can't. 512MB is not enough memory to support anything larger than what we have.

Great point on the caution given to PC players!

"Chunks are segments of the virtually infinite Minecraft worlds. They are 16 blocks wide, 16 blocks long, and 256 blocks deep (As of version 1.2), which is 65,536 blocks total." - Minecraft Wiki
Thanks MG.
P.S. Nice picture of the Recon helmet OP!

True never looked at it that way... But have you ever ran out of diamonds. Most people want more build space and 10 blocks isn't much.

Retired StaffUnless 4J can optimize code enough, we are restricted with our current world size due to the comparatively small amounts of RAM on the Xbox 360.
