Thinking about a NO xp farms/mob grinder rule on a survival hard server. This means that dungeun spawners must not be altered from their natural state. Moss stone and resources can be mined but blocks must be replaced. Chest and contents can be removed and area can be lite with torches to turn them off but no using water etc. to harm/grind mobs. Also no tower farms or enderman farms in the end etc.
This rule would make xp and drops more difficult to obtain and keep the map more survival oriented weeks and months after creating the seed. To me this makes the map hard survival PLUS. What are your thoughts?
I'd make them, as long as the map stays on the same difficulty and no glitches are used, I wouldn't care. The second question in the poll is hard to answer as I like both drops and XP. It just depends what I'm looking for at the time
I have to disagree. I see mob grinders built on survival as the ultimate taming of the wild in Minecraft. If anyone wants to call them easy and overpowered, they can come in work on the dual blaze grinder for me that hangs 50 blocks over the lava ocean
Challenge accepted!
I watched season 1 and 2 of Ethos LP series and I have built a few single Spice Cream Cones now, i'll help build it or I could go on ghast blasting duty.

I agree with JSpringy on this one. I think developing various systems to manage hostile mobs is, in fact, a primary objective of the game. I believe the mob spawning mechanics and the addition of dungeon points are there intentionally to be used for the purpose of controlling hostile mob spawns on the map to the point where what communities the player develops can be made relatively safe. That 100% safety is difficult, if not impossible, to actually achieve even with the extensive use of grinders and such just adds to the challenge. I disagree that the world without them is arbitrarily more "survival oriented" than worlds with them... Grinders and such are more an intellectual approach to mob control; and there is more to survival than just the brute force of having to slaughter mobs out on the plains every night.
However, I'm also not adverse to such a "no grinder" rule being put in place. This game encourages players to add in a variety of their own rules to either make the challenge of the game tougher or easier or different as they desire. In fact, I think it would add an interesting dimension to that world as long as those playing in the world are in agreement with the rule being put into place; and it would certainly make obtaining XP more difficult; particularly once the world is mature and the number of mineable ores remaining in the ground diminishes and they get harder to find.
I would see grinders as even more helpful in a "hard" survival setting.
Also I agree with Springy... I don't see grinders as a bad thing but as a good thing! It means you've progressed to a place where you can control how these bastards that are out to get you are destroyed...... They asked for it!

Check it out for awesome tutorials and constant content!
Oops, I had meant to quote JSPRINGY in my post, as I also prefer to build mob grinders.
He and UpUp said it all better than I could.
Thanks for the offer though, and good luck with the server.
JSPRINGY is building the blaze grinder on the same server I'm on. The question I asked was to see what people thought. We have had a Skeleton XP farm since the begining of the seed.
Me being a survival builder I wouldn't really care either way. I actually like the drops and xp both equally as each has their own use in certain moments. Having less mobs come bother me while i am building the better and longer I can build.
Those don't stop mobs from spawning out in the dark, as daylight is the best time for one to work anyway, for the exception of slimes... Now only if slimes where spawnable in swamps...lol
also since I don't really play on hard, I guess I don't have much say or focus on that aspect, as I prefer playing on easy or normal. Sometimes peaceful if I am in the mood to do so....

My First World, always getting back to is a pleasure I enjoy with each new update that brings in more things to add in.

pffft, skeleton fashion show. i think we should open up a couple glass blocks so skeletons can randomly snipe you while you're harvesting trees.
i'm not opposed to grinders, but wouldn't mind giving it a try without them.. what about one week till the dragon, no grinders on the first server.. might get some of your regulars back over there more frequently to help keep an eye on things.

When I started this topic it was just the original 24/7 server so the skeleton grinder I was talking about was the one Tiffany built in the ravine.
Yea I like the idea of doing some mini-games with a server. Starting a new seed and playing a fast adventure game to see how quickly we can kill the dragon or maybe make a capture the flag map.
The only grinder i use is Ethos blaze farm, i dont use it too often, only enchanted 3-4 things with it. But its good for blaze rods and glowstone(my nether is HORRIBLE for glowstone gathering). My furnaces now run on blazerods, no more coal for me! In the case of a map i would still use them for drops depending on the mob and for xp occasionally.

I hate grinders (and wolves) with a passion.
Stay fluffy~
