Do you play with bedrock fog on or off? Is bedrock fog an irritating issue to deal with or does it enhance the difficulty level making resources (especially diamonds) more valuable? I have played with it on in the past but currently have a server where it's off. Thinking about using bedrock fog (survival hard) to enhance the survival part of the game and make diamond mining a little more difficult.
Does anyone have specific numbers as far as how bedrock fog affects light levels at specific elevations?
At extreme depths, black fog closes in. At the bedrock level, a torch can no longer be seen from 11 squares distance. This effect is inhibited by proximity to open sky (i.e. the degree to which the place where you are standing would be lit by sunlight), whether or not the sun is currently up. Digging a shaft from the surface down to your room will allow you to see far, even at bedrock level.
I use it so I can easily tell my depth without breaking out a map. And it does add to the ambiance
I dislike bedrock fog. If you're strip mining (where you're probably most likely to get bedrock fog) you will probably just walk over some diamonds. Its more annoying than a challenge because mobs rarely spawn in a strip mine unless you run into a cave (thats the only thing i could think of where its difficult)
I keep it on nearly 24/7 and have even utilized a mini-game using it.
It adds to the ambience of a world and also tells you that the bottom of the world is close.
I suppose the only time it's "off" is at my Slime farm entry door--I have a light shaft to the sky so I can scope out the entire room.
Can't stand the fog. I only go down to bedrock when strip mining, and I don't want to miss any diamonds.
I thought of making a maze down at bedrock and have people go through it with fog on, to add an extra challenge, but never got around to it.

I play with fog on. I don't see how it affect diamond hunting, when you can clearly see within 5 blocks of you. If you manage to walk over a diamond, then it's not the fog that's the problem, it's the fact that you aren't looking where you're going.
I do like the fog at levels 10-20. . . where it goes from like blueish to redish. Looks really cool.
ETA:
I don't use fog as my screen has very low brightness, I have Gamma set at 90 and I play for too long, so I don't see any need to strain my eyes beyond what is "necessary" lol.
Well darn. I could still use it so they don't know what traps await them down each tunnel.
True.
I've tested fog at the lowest possible Creative depth with Obsidian walls.
Granted the maze was small, it was surprisingly easy and mob-free. .n.

Sounds good. I don't want my contestants dying before they get to my traps. C:<

It doesn't really do anything unless the walls are 4+ blocks apart.
And wow, so many fog haters....

That kills the adventurous aspect of being in the earth. .n.

Thank you. I saw that when you first posted but forgot to let you know "yes" that is good information.
