Ok, so, I've been playing minecraft for a long time now, but, there is one mechanic I have not even LAID A FINGER on this entire time...
Minecarts.
I never touched them. Never. Never never never. I was always busy making huge, complex constructs. Now, on my main world, it is a huge island, converted into a huge utopia; multiple venues, multiple constructs, estates, structures, towns, you name it! But, it takes ages to transverse the entire world. So, I decided I wanted to make a central train station.
I know the basics, but, I want some tips and tricks of what I can do with minecarts, little nuances and behaviors of the minecarts, and cool things like, I dunno, track switching, trainstations, and the such.
For the station you might want to check out this one it is pretty decent, and quite versatile and expandable to a degree. assuming there is enough space. It is compact.
CNB has a lot of good items but that is the one thing I know is a great station to use.
Switching a track is rather simple. placing a torch near a T-section will give you the default orientation when you break the torch. Switching tracks can be anywhere from easy to difficult to set up depending on how you go about it. just a simple lever with a trail of redstone leading up to an inverted torch under the switching track with allow you to switch directions. That is the most easiest of them, as there can be more complex work with the redstone to do so. However keeping that in mind the easy solution you could incorporate that with the station I mentioned, however that would take some trial and error to get it working as intended.
You do not always need a torch to power powered rails. You can simply put a detector rail to either side of a single power rail, and the detector when cart moves over them will power those booster rails..
That is all I can think of at the moment, as it has been a while since I worked on my rail system, which really needs a major overhaul to create less confusion for those I have shown around my old world....:D
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
My First World, always getting back to is a pleasure I enjoy with each new update that brings in more things to add in.
I like using passive track switching by exploiting the game's behavior quirks at track disconnects. A cart moving across a straight track will hop on to a following curved track that doesn't connect to it. But when the cart moves in the opposite direction, it will follow the curve instead. This allows for a rail route with many stops without using any active track switching.
You can have a rail going straight and then it separates in two different directions. Then you have a lever going to the separation and that lever can switch which way it goes.
hm, the T-junction seems rather simple. But, what about 3 directions; going straight, left, right?
Not so simple. Since the track curve only goes those 2 directions, so you would have to make a couple Ts in order for it to go that strait line. Of course you could have a split off sometime before the initial T and have the rail run along side it for a bit and have that track go up and over the other track that it will run into. Unfortunately there is no solid way to turn a T into a 3 way.
basically you would have to make a bunch of intersections for 2 way, the Ts... Usually there are many ways around it but most are either building a station at each intersection with 3+ ways or using a bunch of Ts spread out. That is basically all you can do about those at least for the moment. don't know if there will or not be something added to change that, but the way it works now is fine since there are plenty of ways to get around that single disadvantage...
And yes you can use a minecart for a redstone clock. Although a bit tricky to get the timings sometimes. I have never really made one but have seen a few videos about them. If I was to make a clock I would rather using the redstone stuff...lol

Help a bro out?
THANKS!

This is what I use. I'm working on a 4-way, but I'm trying to get it done in a simple way.
Using minecarts for redstone clocks.
Can't really think of any other special things besides all the transportation uses
