Growing grass is somewhat random. Make sure it has a lot of light. If there isn't sunlight, put torches right next to it. It shouldn't take more than a few minutes for grass to grow if the conditions are right
you know how when you have a regular dirt block and you place it down near a grass block it turns into a grass block eventually how long does that take to happen
what is silk touching and i need to get the grass from the middle of the map to the top left so that's slot of land also what are the ideal conditions
That is a long distance to do by having the grass spread block to block, but it can be done. It will go quicker, however, it you do a double line of dirt blocks rather than just a single one and more quickly still if you do a triple line. Even son, it will probably take several Minecraft days for it to spread that entire distance. Some people feel that by adding artificial light, it helps the grass to spread quicker. Personally, I've not noticed much of a difference. Where I have notice a big difference is, as I said, when you add more rows to the line of blocks going from your grassy location to your destination.
Silk Touch is an enchantment that you can get on pickaxes that enables blocks to be collected in their original state rather than in their normal mined state. So, if you use a Silk Touch enchanted pickaxe to gather coal rather than a normal pickaxe, you will collect the coal ore blocks rather than the normal lump of coal you get. If you use a Silk Touch pickaxe on grass blocks, it will pick them up as grass blocks rather than bare dirt. Then you can just lay them down in your preferred location and they will already be as grass... no worrying about getting it to spread halfway across the map.
U didn't ask but to let you know grass will appear the shade/color of the biome that the grasss is in. If you transfer grass from a forest biome to a desert biome the grass will be the dull brownish color and not the bright green forest color.
