Do I need the lava underneath the end portal to be able to go thru it? because i've distinguished the lava just so i dont fall in.

also is it bad that i've destroyed the silverfish spawner? what is the silverfish good for?

Silverfish are good for mining if you're willing to put an extreme amount of effort in. Look up EthosLab. He uses his spawner to mine out an area.

The lava's pointless and deadly in SMP.
The spawner is...a spawner, nothing else.

Silverfish can give you some decent xp without the downside of taking a lot of damage if they hit you. But it really is more annoying. That being said since there is only one silverfish spawner on the map and since i can't get another one i am loathe to destroy it. If you want to leave it and have the end portal room in prestige condition you can just have a one block opening in the ceiling and drop in there to enter the ender portal.

Or you can do as Etho did in his world so you dont have to worry about silverfish
