Chunkbase.com has tools that will help you find slime chunks, after you find where the slimes spawn you need to dig a 3 tall room anywhere below Y - 40, light it up good so no other mobs will spawn, and make sure you have all nearby caves lit up too.
jack-o-lanterns or glowstone for the floor lighting are best in a slime room. i prefer jacks cause they don't break as easy when punching slimes. typically i will come across a slime or two when caving so i'll mark that spot and dig a slime farm there if i'm not getting enough.
I find the easiest way to light up a slime cave is torches set in the ceiling. One torch every three blocks lights it so nothing but slime can spawn.

Is Glowstone considered a transparent block? If so then its possible that mobs cannot spawn on it.
I would use Jacks in the floor, just to be safe.
I believe that jacks are transparent also. If you place the glowstone/jacks/torches 2 spaces apart, they will only minimally affect the spawn rates. I have always placed my light source directly on/in the floor and haven't had any problems with spawning rates.
In my experience, the most important thing to do when trying to find slimes is to make sure that there aren't any caves running above and/or below your slime farm. I can't even begin to count how many hours I've spent digging three block high rooms over multiple adjacent slime chunks (according to chunkbase.com, which I can only recommend), only to realise that there's a cave running above or below it. A couple of times I even found more than one tunnel above my farms.

5-high is unnecessary, though.
A 3-high massive box under Y=41 will eventually spit out Slimes somewhere if you keep expanding it....
