I haven't tried brewing yet and I was wondering how to make the splash potion of harming (the one you can throw at mobs) and not the potion one.

The first thing you do is make an akward potion (nether wart + 3 water bottles)
Then you make a potion of healing (akward potion + glistering melon)
After that you reverse your potion with a fermented spider eye.
Then put gunpowder in it. (To make it throwable)
And finally add glowstone (to make it more durable)

If you know how to make a Potion of Harming, then skip the following steps.

1. Make an Awkward Potion (Water Bottle + Nether Wart)
2. Take your Awkward Potion[s] and add in a Glistening Melon (Melon Slice + Gold Nugget), to make a Potion of Healing I.
3. Take you Potion of Healing I and brew it with Redstone OR Glowstone. This will make a Potion of Healing II.
4. Take your Potion of Healing II and add in a Fermented Spider Eye (Spider Eye + Brown Mushroom + Sugar). This makes a Potion of Harming II.

To make it a splash potion, just add Gunpowder. This does reduce the time the potion lasts for, but that makes no difference on Harming Potions. Although I think it does reduce the damage taken.
