What kind of enchantment do you like on your mining pick axe? and do you prefer diamond or iron for it?
Lately, I've been enchanting lots of diamond/iron pickaxes (lvl 10-13) to have Efficiency and Unbreaking enchantment on it. Is this a waste of diamond/iron? Should I always enchant to lvl 30?
frankly im a snob when it comes to enchantments, i always do lv 30 diamond. save, enchant.. oh that one sucks, reload, enchant. repeat until i get what i want. I tend to not stop till i get a decent level of efficiency, unbreaking, and fortune.

I tend to do this although I would settle for anything with fortune 3.

I put my shirt on one leg at a time, just like everybody else.
I never reload if I get a crappy enchantment...
Preferred for Mining--- UnBreaking III and Efficiency IV.. throw silk touch on there I can mine forever.. and
Always a back up Fortune 3 for diamonds...
I've come to love silk touch.. Since all the ores come out as blocks.. it allows me to mine far longer. I hate having a clogged up inventory with coal or redstone or lapis that take up wayy to much space when not in block form. So Silk touch it.. take it back home and break it there..
EDIT.. Diamond Tools All Diamond Tools..
Iron Armor only thing I care about is Feather Falling.

what do you guys do?
I prefer to enchant the best tool I can afford, so I will definitely enchant a diamond tool whenever I can. Unbreaking I essentially doubles the life of the pickaxe, so if you get an Unbreaking I enchantment on a stone pickaxe, you're getting about 134 extra blocks out of that pickaxe. If you get the same enchantment on a diamond pickaxe, you're getting about 1,580 extra blocks for the same "buck."
If you enchant anything using 1 level of XP, you have a 100% chance of getting at least an Efficiency I enchantment and a progressively slimmer chance of getting other enchantments. For most ores, there is so little difference between Efficiency I and Efficiency II or III that I think that, if what you want is an efficiency enchantment, paying anything more than 1 level of XP for it is a waste of XP. Of course, usually people want more than efficiency on a pickaxe and, if they're honest and not re-rolling the dice all the time, they wind up accepting the efficiency enchantments as just part of the luck of the game. If I'm hoping for something like Fortune III or Silk Touch I with Unbreaking III and Efficiency IV, I'll pay the 30 levels to get the best chance I can of getting it (without re-rolling the dice).
I like to have Fortune III, Unbreaking III, and Efficiency IV. I have a few friends that think mining/killing with diamond items is a waste, so I like to let them on my survival worlds as I dig quarry's with that diamond pick :D. They freak out and ask me why I'm so wasteful...

Iron Armor only thing I care about is Feather Falling.
Added bonus for the silk touched coal, redstone, and lapis ores -> XP storage. I often find myself at level 28-29 in need of a pick / armor piece, and its nice to just grab a 64 stack of coal ore out of a chest for a quick level gain.
I try to carry both a silk touch I and a fortune III pickaxe. Ideally each with efficiency IV and Unbreaking III.
I no longer make/enchant diamond axes. An efficiency IV / Unbreaking III shovel will harvest almost as quickly, for a third of the diamonds.
Armor - I stick to iron and ideally prefer protection IV. Feather falling for the boots, respiration and aqua affinity for the helmet.
Probably 50/50 on first roll vs re-rolling enchantments. If I'm playing solo and don't really have a major project going on I might re-roll. If friends are on my world or I'm more occupied with something else I'll take whatever I get first. It can always server as enchanted armor for guests.
Hard Survival, no xp farms, my first diamond pick (30 xp) eff. 3 silk 1 my second diamond pick (30 xp) silk 1 only! no reload. dissappointed yes but the game is still very interesting and fun. Sometimes my first two picks have been the triple threat (eff. undreaking and fortuen 3) but not today.
I enchant leather armor at 1 xp and an iron pick at 1 xp until i get more diamonds then it's 30 xp for me.
Well most people would prefer Unbreaking, Efficiency, and Fortune, but I have to say I would be happy with pretty much anything. I'm fine with just Unbreaking and Efficiency, because that becomes my "work pick" that I use for all the tedious stuff, like hollowing out the underground. I'm even fine with Silk Touch, because I like using stone bricks in my designs and it saves me from having to smelt a ton of stone. I usually enchant diamond picks, so it will last much longer (hopefully), but I do enchant iron picks sometimes in hopes of getting better enchantments because it has a higher enchantability compared to diamond tools.
I used to always back out and get really good enchantments.
But i've come to accept that it ruins the game, frankly because you will get easily bored having the 'best in the game'. With that fact present, there really aren't any flaws you can run into and it just gets really boring especially if it only takes 20 min to get to lv 30. So now i recently just enchant and take whatever i get but the second i get knockback on a sword i delete the enchant. (putting an enchanted item into a furnace and breaking it, deletes the enchantment on it so you don't have to waste diamonds on a new one.)

Wow just tried it. I never knew that. Wish I had known that with the 30xp silk1 only diamond pick but it's almost used up now.
level 30 if diamond or iron, since I don't get anything good otherwise. lower levels I would reload if on those picks.
If I enchant anything I usually go for a stone pick and stick with what ever I get. I may burn through cobble that way, but at least I have more diamond and iron for other things.:D
That and I actually like mining inbetween my lil' projects or tasks.
For the most part I don't reload unless it is something I don't want in the first place.(iron/diamond only) As I am having lots of trouble just getting silk touch or fortune III...>< takes like 20-30 times before I get either...

*facepalm* as Etho said in his episode "This game is easy". You're technically wasting diamonds on armor. Tell that to you're friends. o.O

without those three .... I won't / CAN'T even mine anymoreBTW it helps having an enderman farm to go from 0-30xp in 15min.
