I'm building a role playing world and thought I'd include a black market. I need ideas for what could be included in it. So far I've thought of selling TNT and weapons, as well as being able to hire mercenaries/contract killers. Anything else?
You realize you are distributing weaponry to your public, right? And black markets are illegal..... So... Wouldn't you be increasing crime rate in your OWN city?

Religion, has actually convinced people, that there's an invisible man, living in the sky, who watches everything you do every minute of the day, and the invisible man has a special list. Of 10 things he doesn't want you to do. And if you do ANY of these ten things he has a special place, full of fire, and smoke, and burning, and torture, and will send you there to suffer and choke and scream for all of eternity... But he still loves you.

I don't want it to be a perfect city; I'm hoping for a more interesting scenario than normal jobs
You....YOU FOLLOW BY THE RULES!
you'll never have the feeling of being an open minded butterfly talking like that!
you won't be able to run the streets nude thinking like that!
You will never be able to jump off a building and break a leg TALKING LIKE THAT!
you won't be able to get arrow-ed down talking like that!
you must break the rules and feel to get hit by cars! Fly my child...Fly!
Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't it NOT be a black market if your supporting its existence? From my knowledge, a black market arises when the government or someone in charge doesn't want you to buy or sell something, yet people buy or sell it anyway. The way you make it sound is that you support the illegal trade of TNT, weapons, and possibly mercenaries, and if you're in charge that effectively means it's off the black market.

I'm not trying to get technical here. I'm having a friend lead the black market, and it is so that players in the world can get the thrill of doing something they believe is sneaky while we still have the ability to monitor what is going on. You're right, it's not a real black market, but no one else will know that.

Ahh, like a social experiment? That's cool. Though mercenaries might be a little tough to pull off since most casual players (I assume) will have weapons and armor of their own, unless they received overpowered stuff (Like a sharpness IV diamond sword with a full suit of Protection IV diamond armor)

I didn't consider the idea of players having higher level armor, thanks. I suppose it'll end up being a lot of trial and error.
Sell them TNT at outragious prices... then set host options so TNT doesn't explode.
OR
Create a super flat world so there are no resources and load a bunch of stuff in creative. Then turn it back to survival and invite people if you want to sell really superior weaponry.

Well, I'm a atheist. So, to 90% of the U.S. I am not a believer. Thus, you are correct.

That's so deep that I can actually see a bit of Taylor Swift coming out of you.
you could have enchanted items banned in your world due to the corruptness of the mind from the item, but sell them on the black market...
the strength potion could be like a steroid, another black market item
I agree with you on this, except include other potions as well, maybe even make certain blocks or other items illegal, then sold in the market, something like mob spawn eggs, or something that is really hard to come by.

If you really want to push the potion idea you could collect a couple of stacks of blaze rods then destroy the blaze spawners so noone else can make a brewing stand. It's like your own personal meth lab.

That would actually depend on if you want to premake mass amounts of certain materials in creative, either way the spawners would need to be destroyed at some point.

Wait, what? I see no mention of deities in Apathy's post.
OP: As others mentioned, outlawing combat-based enchantments would be a good start. Also, diamond armor could be considered a police uniform. Potions could be treated as drugs sectioned in schedules, just like in federal American laws. If you wanted to hop onto creative mode, you could even sell spawn eggs.

Bank Robberies. If your want some form of crime, let people attempt to rob the banks (assuming you have banks).

Nothing too important though.
That would backfire.
