So what are some uses for cactus? I have built the first floor walls of a house with cactus and it's great because no more creepers standing outside your door. They kill themselves trying to get in . GnormDaGnome showed me that they destroy any block tossed into them so they are a safe alternative to a lava incinerator. Easily used in a wooden structure or as a decorative plant incinerator.

I have not done the stair case challenge yet but looks neat. If you watch the video the first 2 or 3 minutes will show you everything.




Here are some other cactus ideas for planting under water etc.

I have a cactus farm on one of my worlds, but we don't speak of it. Ever.

i use cacti for parkour, decorations, and farms

I use them for making cyan wool!

I use mine for the most awkward PvP battle you'll ever have.

I use them for my first night surviving. I like to call them "Creeper Defense" because Creepers fall for my trap.

The trap goes like this:

I've only ever used them for one world. I used it as a four deep wall around my house to keep creepers out. It was terribly time consuming to lay it down, and I always walk into them, so I've never bothered with it again. I don't deal too much with wool, so I don't use it for dyes.

"Only one world" and "never bothered with it again" imply that I've never used cactus other than that one world. For anything. Ever.

sorry i didnt think that was all that you did with cacti most people do at least one more thing with them. i know in my first world, the giant castle had green wool. then i upgraded to lime green wool

I also said that I don't use wool. I've never wanted wool enough to spend the time farming sheep for hours. I don't see any other uses for cacti, to be honest.

well i never said that it had to relate with wool. i was just saying that i had used it to make wool before. i was never suggesting that you used/use wool. i was only using my (cacti involving) wool as an example of at least one other thing.

I use them however I think they should be used at the moment I need or want to use them.

basically wool, but had ideas for traps and like someone else mentioned, a wall. I do farm them when I need them, as they are the easiest farm to make.:D

Much like you, I tried using them for defence way back at the beginning and found that I usually did myself more damage by walking into them than the mobs. I also found that many of my spider drops were getting lost as well. So I now just basically use them as a decoration for desert-themed builds and desert farms.

In an older world, I liked using cactus to make pillars/supports for my beach / desert houses. Elevates the house, keeps the lower level open, but keeps the baddies to a minimum under there.

In my current world, I built an auto-cactus farm before sheep re-grew their wool. Now I have 2 green sheep and a double chest full of cactus.

Other than that - perimeter defense - cactus are a great perimeter wall - its like green barbed wire!

I simply have a farming area and they are included in this... just because.. I never use them. I hurt myself more than anything else with those things

i though sugar cane was the easiest since it is found everywhere around the map

well it pretty much farms itself.. no bud switches... just they grow and bam break.

I often use them against mobs in mid combat.
