The Center for Research into Explosive Energy Personel (CREEPers) has conducted experiments with these hostile indigenious personel; the following are those findings.
Experiments were conducted on flat grass terrain with a captured EEP (explosive energy personel) placed four blocks away. The Steve avatar in the minecraft remained stationary thoughout the test. Test were conducted in survival hard. Test only include stated test situation ie. when riding pig no armor was worn. During all test the EEP would execute a counterclockwise flanking manuever.
Test # modification result
1 no amor death
2 leather armor death
3 level 1 enchanted leather 5 hearts remain
4 iron armor 3 hearts remain
5 gold armor 2.5 hearts remain
6 diamond armor 7 hearts remain
7 chain armor 2.5 hearts remain
8 riding saddled pig both dead
9 fence barrier wood and netherbrick 9+ hearts remain
10 1 block deep water area no damage note: the EEP explosion can propel the Steve avatar out of the water while still not inflicting any damage.
During testing it was discovered that slimes do not swim or hop in one block deep water. They slide along the bottom. The smallest of the slimes apparently do not drown even though they are under water. All slimes slide to the closest point to the Steve avatar personel. If struck the slimes can jump and liberate themselves from the water.
You are authorised to forward this document to personel with proper clearance. If your mission includes testing with EEP's forward that as well and attach said experimental results.
tried 3 times. each time 2 pieces had protection one and two pieces had something less useful or of no use.
1 test was helmet = protection 1
chest = projectile protection 1
pants = blast protection
boots = protection 1
As long as a couple of pieces were protection one enchanted i was OK
... unless, of course, you count the several unwilling volunteers that blew themselves up for the sake of science.
Perhapss...also run a sword parry test to see how much comparable damage is deflected at the same distance.
My sword experiments didn't get good data. I either killed them in two hits (using standard hit a run tactics) or they detonated. So it was a diamond sword or enchanted iron or enchanted gold that would work but not enough information other than a two hit weapon works most of the time. In hard survival they sometimes (it seems) don't stop detonation timer even after backing away.
if done in water you already don't take damage so it's not as aplicable in the real world. Thier movement is slowed so hiting them is easier .
EDIT: Apparently the smallest slimes do drown. I must have not waited long enough.
Data on blocking with a sword? Also slabs and stairs are Incredibly blast resistant try using those in your test.

Experiments were conducted on flat grass terrain with a captured EEP (explosive energy personel) placed four blocks away. The Steve avatar in the minecraft remained in one block but did rotate per experiment. Test were conducted in survival hard. Test only include stated test situation. During all test the EEP would execute a counterclockwise flanking manuever.
As the 16th century minecrafter Bill Rattlestick once said: "To Block or not to Block that is the question."
The following experiments were conducted with swords made of wood, stone, iron, gold and diamond. All results were the same so hereafter the word sword refers to all types of materials.
Experiment 1: sword used to block with diamond armor. Result: 9 hearts remaining compared to a no block rate of 7.5 hearts remaining.
Experiment 2: sword used to block with unenchanted leather armor. Result: 5 hearts remaining compared to instant death without blocking.
Experiment 3: sword used to block with no armor. Result: 3 hearts remaining compared to instant death without blocking.
Note 1: Blocking manuver was engaged before explosion and held until after explosion had subsided.
Note 2: Blocking manuver was used facing the EEP (explosive energy personel), at 90degree angle to EEP and facing away from EEP. All results were the same.
The answer to Rattlesticks question "To Block or not to Block." The answer is blocking an imminent EEP explosion can save your life.

The Center for Research into Explosive Energy Personel (CREEPers) has conducted experiments with these hostile indigenious personel; the following are those findings.
Experiments were conducted on flat grass terrain with 2 captured EEP (explosive energy personel) placed four blocks away. The Steve avatar in the minecraft remained stationary on the oppostie side of the wall from the EEP. Test were conducted in survival hard. Test only include stated test situation. During all test the EEPs would execute a counterclockwise flanking manuever. Two EEPs were used because one EEP would continue to try and flank counterclockwise and move itself too far and would cease detonation. When 2 were used one would block the second one from moving out of range but only one would explode.
The test materials were built as a wall 6 blocks wide and four blocks high with a single block missing so the EEP could see the Steve avatar and would detonate. The total number of blocks per wall was 23 the test result reflect the number of blocks destroyed. The Steve avatar recieved no blast damage regardless of the material used in the walls.
The test results can be classified into 4 categories of wall protection. Multiple test run on the same material would be within a range of +/- 1 block so categories are more useful than specifics numbers for each test. Letter designation "C" after the level number indicate that the material is only available for construction in creative. Underlined materials are best in category.
Level 1 = loss of 0 to 6 blocks
Level 2 = loss of 6 to 12 blocks
Level 3 = loss of 13 to 16 blocks
Level 4 = loss of 17 or more blocks
Level 1 Obsidian
Level 1C Bedrock
Level 2 Stone, Nether brick, Diamond block, Iron block, Cobblestone stairs (facing any direction), wood stairs (facing any direction), lapis block, Wood planks, Stone stairs (facing any direction)

That information is restricted and can not be discussed on a non-secured line.
Too bad another research organization has eyes throughout your workplace. (I love playing along)
