What I believe OverlookeDEnT is referring to would be the wave-like motion of the pistons during extension. This is a fundamental part of the process, but it's not the magic that allows pistons to extend to their hearts' content, ignoring a vital cap on their abilities. It is a finely tuned sequence of these "waves", actually starting with sections greater in series. This alleviates the stress that would have been on the pistons.

It's a chain reaction. while the first is extended then the second is pushing the third and so on.
