I am pretty sure spiders can climb higher than that. If you're going to make a trap, don't make them climb walls. Look up a cave spider trap on YouTube. I suggest going on xDowsey's channel.
Spiders can only climb (i think) 3 or 4 blocks vertical. Do they have to climb higher than that?
Spiders can climb infinitely high up a wall as far as I know. The only thing that will stop them is some sort of roof. When they hit it, they'll fall all the way down and take damage.

Spiders do not turn sideways when climbing up walls and cannot climb along the tops of ceilings. They will also sometimes fall off blocks in pursuit of the player to the point where they kill themselves. When a spider climbs a wall and hits a ceiling or roof, it will fall and take damage. If there are blocks around the top of a wall, a spider will not be able to climb to the top, making this a good defense against the mob. However, if there are no blocks around the top of a building, the spider may climb on top of the roof of the building and ambush the player as they exit the building."
I always trap it to a 2 block high 3 wide hallway. Then you put fences 2 high on either wall, then step away 1, and place a cactus in the middle. Not between the fences, one block towards you between them. They jump int the cactus, and you can stlll hit them.
