i have built a big temple for the entrance to the end. the temple is above ground and you drop into a hole that is above the end portal. when entering the end you either have fall damage or are dead. i don't want to change the temple so looking for ideas. i tried placing a pond but when you leave the end the water at the end spawn dissapears. i'm thinking about placeing ladders at the bottom of the hole to slow your fall before entering the end but am lookin gfor other options. any ideas?

have you tried not falling into the portal and seeing if you still take fall dmg in the end ?

I can step into the portal no problem so my guess is that i'm hitting the portal boxes. The hole i have is directly over the starry blackness but if you can jump from space it must be the portal blocks. I'm guessing now.

I have two suggestions. Instead of ladders use vines to slow your fall. You can stop them from growing by placing buttons under them. I could be wrong but if you hit the top of a ladder I think you still take fall damage.

Also is there ground directly under your portal? You might be going so fast that you hit the ground then the game teleports you and you take the damage or die in the end. This is Minecraft after all stranger bugs...err features have been known to happen.

I fall about 40 blocks in to my portal and used to die from fall damage in the End. I put a sign at the bottom of my shaft with two water source blocks on top and it works great now.

The end portal room has not been significantly changed so there is lava under the portal. The hole i have to fall into the end portal is 3x3 so it's a nine block opening so you can see the whole portal from the top.

You can do the sign on sign trick so you can fill two layers of your 3x3 hole with water, the signs will basically be suspended in midair and hold the water up as well.

yes and it works great. The water ends about 3 blocks above the portal surface. The sign on sign idea from rush should do the trick for you.
