the last rumour that was mentioned regarding the 360 compatibiltiy was that there was going to be an add on device similar to the HD-DVD drive that will allow backwards compatibility.
I think its unlikely that the console will be backward compatible purely due to the (big) change in architecture
a lot more xbox speculation appeared today especially regarding the pricing / launch window /subscription models and also that there is going to be no 'lite' xbox just now or possibly ever, there will be just the one xbox as a gaming/entertainment/tv device
in some ways I hope it isn't backward compatible as I would hope it would encourage development of new titles rather than rely on the fact it can play old games.
I, for one, never ever played an xbox 1 game on my 360 asI had 360 games to play ,nor do I play PS2 games on the PS3.
Errr no, latest 'credible' rumour was not that at all, it was a built in backwards compatibility.
That's like saying you'll build your house on the strongest cloud. It's still just vapour, it absolutely all is.
The 360 chip being in it isn't so much a more likely rumour but a more likeable one. I want it to be true but give it no more weight than 4/8/16 DDR3/5 etc.
All we can do is speculate on many possibilities until real info appears. I will agree that some rumours are much more credible than others.
But your "known" to be using widely different architecture is ALSO still a rumour as NOTHING has actually been confirmed, so if you are going to base of rumour, base of all the reasonable credible rumours, or dont make any comment rather than picking and choosinsurely.
I personally willnot buy into any rumors or speculation, and will instead wait for the "official" word from both 4J and Microsoft. I heard too much speculation and rumors in regards to the recent upgrade, and what would be included in it. i will not fall into that pit again.
With that being said, if I have to purchase new equipment and games and nothing is compatible, then it better be cheap or I will go to playing exclusively on PC. This never compatible, have to always buy more, can never play the old, can never just update; is getting tiresome.
I don't know about others, but, I cannot afford too many more consoles.
World size would be nice but i thought 4J's job was to get it up to 1.2.5, Won't they want more coin if they are porting it over to another console?
Maybe it will be a direct copy and paste from PC version.
Which would also allow a bigger profit and bigger team on updating.
We will get way faster updates because of PCs snapshots and there could even be cross platform.
