Since this is the future platform that Minecraft will be running on I wonder how the platform changes might affect some of the limitations in the game have been attributed to hardware issues. It seems that this could be huge with regard to things like world size and the number of players on a server. I know that there have been some topics in the past speculating on the next gen platform but with us being on the doorsteps of some hard facts about this new device it seems like we may be in for some interesting developments in the next few months with regard to the game's future.
Yeah, that's... Great... Sorry what does this have to do with minecraft Xbox edition.
Well the questions I am wondering about it is, will it be moved to the new console, will 360 players be able to play with those that have the new console?
I'm wondering that as well because if that happens then they should drop the "xbox 360 Edition" off of the game title and just what will happen to the console version of minecraft in general.

The answer is that no, this game and the next gen version will not be compatible as the systems won't be similar enough power wise. Expect a "next gen xbox minecraft" to debut shortly before they stop supporting this one.
by what your saying the next gen wont be able to run this version of MC cause of power ? think the next gen could very easily run this version and wouldnt be surprised if it was backward compatible
sorry if i miss read what you said lol
I think they were trying to say that the new Microsoft system is going to be vastly more powerful than the Xbox 360 meaning that Minecraft Xbox 360 wouldn't be compatible. That isn't the case though. The game would still be compatible and it would actually run better. Especially if the next Microsoft system has 8GB RAM like it's rumored to.
Its funny now companies have to reveal that their going to reveal something on a set date. Maybe it will be another date?
Rumour has it that the xbox lite tv box will be backwards compatitible but no disc drive so they can make it smaller. That will be the always online machine that everyone (including me) was moaning about not the 720.
Please take with salt as required.
*downs a container of salt*
How could it be backwards compatible with no disc drive? Logic fail. (they would be ports, if digital, a remake..recoded?)
no disc drive? are you kidding me? thats not going to happen...at least not this decade. there may be pushes for more online purchases, but there wont be an "all online" system for quite a while, if you ask me..
Hopefully its completly backwards compatible, and not partially, like the xbox to the xbox 360.
And im doubting the "always online" bit of it too...
Questions i have:
1. a. Is it backwards compatible?
b. If it is, will all games be backwards compatible, or just some?
2. Will we be charged for online services?
3. Will our accounts, gamerscore, avatar items, ect. continue onto the next system?
4. What is the controller like (and are the 360 controllers compatible?)
5. What is it named? (please not 720...please.)
6. What are some of the release titles?
Well Actually current info lists the new xbox with a 360 chipset inside it also; which would allow anything from the 360 to be backwards compatible No idea if the lite will have it however.
theres a couple of issues. its not so much if the future console is compatible with this console. but vise versa.
and what it brakes down to is. if the future version is made o be completely compatible with this one it will have to be just as limited.
and if they do create a system for moving maps over. which seems unlikely. and they do increase the world size than that creates problems as well. since there would be a lot of negative space the next gen world generator would have to fill and that usually doesn't go over too well. also theres the issue of coding. since the console is going to be so new one must assume there will be some coding differences in the games. same since when comparing the xbox version to the pc. they basically have to re code the game. also if they increase the player cap for the next gen console that would also limit the next gen version compatibility with the now gen version
that's not to say its completely impossible. but its more likely that the 720 version would be pc compatible that 360 compatible. and thats very unlikely as well.
it boils down to how much microsoft is going to work with 4j to make it backwards compatible and if we are willing to sacrifice certain aspects. i for one hope they make it solely for the 720 with massive upgrades and allow us to import maps with some sort of map sharing process. which we need anyway. and rent able/ multi host servers.
im both excited to see what next gen means for minecraft on consoles. and im sad that i might lose my world that ive worked so hard on.

Im going to place a bet down, that if they allow us a way to transfer data, our 360 maps would still work and be there...and if they do create bigger worlds, I think those would stil work, just generate new chunks at the borders...
correct me if im wrong, but the 360 (and probably subsiquent systems..) use a system of folders and files, yes? (bit off topic, not to far off though)

4j studios has a contract with microsoft that will run out soon and it is possible that there wont be a minecraft on the new xbox but possibly on the ps4 (STUPID AS ****)
Though i would imagine saved worlds would be compatible, at least...
They aren't going to make them compatible, 1 because if they do, then the version on the new xbox wouldn't be able to use its full potential to make the game more like the pc version because the old xbox wouldn't be able to handle it. 2, there probably won't be another minecraft on the new xbox unless 4j is smart and realizes they could make another 4 million dollars in sales. 3 4j might move over to the ps4. correct me if you know i'm wrong, not assume.
IF this….
IF that….
IF the other….
That's a lot of 'ifs'.
And we really don't know anything for sure yet. Rumors, other rumors saying those rumors are wrong, etc., etc.
How will it all effect MC? I think:
* There's no reason to get a next gen box for MC IF the new box runs the existing MC. You've already got one that runs MC fine. You'd only get a new one to run the new other games.
* There's no sense in running the the existing MC on the new box. (Yes, you can drive your Model T on the freeway… but why would you want to?) New box = new capabilities = (begs for a) new MC.
* Bottom line- the new box won't effect MC unless MC is redone to take advantage of the new box.

No that's not what I meant. I meant to say that the new xbox will be able to run a far superior version of minecraft, why saddle it with the old limited version we are playing now? Of course it could have two versions, but they wouldn't be compatible with each other. That's the question I was trying to answer.
Edit: I'd like to add I think I'm hard pressed to find a game with this much replay value. I've been playing this almost exclusively for a year. If a new version hits the new xbox for 20 bucks, and it is closer to the current pc version, I'll buy it.
Well its kind of the reverse, what happens if MC is or isnt compatible (along with a few other games) will affect my purchase ofthe new box. Because if they are compatible I may well buy it because I can still play them and get the new games I want as they come out without using two consoles. If they arent then i wont buy one for some time until there is a large enough collection of new games for me to care. As once I have the new one the old one doesnt have any room in here LOL
I just hope It doesn't cost too much.
Hopefully it's better than PS4 somehow Im sick of arguments.
If one was standout winner there would be no more fanboy arguments.
If its bad then I'll probably just save for a good PC coz I'm a Xbox fanboy.
