So as the title suggests what did you take to the end? I realize some or even most of you think that this end scenario was very easy, but I and I am sure others would love to hear what works well against the dragon ,some don't leave home without em items,or general tips about the end.I personally went in way to early<with a game save of coarse>and got chewed up and spit out LOL ,then I rage quit LOLLOL

Red sky at night, sailor's delight.Red sky at morning, sailor take warning
It took an efficiency enchanted diamond pickaxe, an bow enchanted with power and infinity (absolute must for me to have infinity), 1 arrow, an enchanted diamond sword (I had Sharness IV and Knockback II, I think), a stack of obsidian (to bridge my way from the platform to the island since the dragon can't break obsidian). food and healing potions and my best enchanted armor. I was thinking about taking extra ender pearls, but wound up that I didn't have enough to do that.
As it turned out I hardly needed the sword, the armor or the healing potions.. I lucked out and the distance to the island form the spawn platform was quite short. The first thing I did on arrival on the island was to tunnel in and start mining end stone in the a direction that would get me to the base of the nearest tower where the crystal was surrounded by iron. Then, I cut into the tower and basically mined myself up the inside of it, planting endstone beneath my feet as I mined obsidian out from above my head. Came out just off to one side of the crystal so was able to shoot it out from my hole while protected by the obsidian around me. Then, I raised myself so I was standing in a 1-block hole on the top of the tower and shot out what crystals I could. Then I re-descended the tower by mining out the endstone beneath my feet. Ran over to the second tower with the iron grate and climbed that one from inside the same way. Then, I descended that tower and mined a tunnel in the endstone towards the exit portal area. The rest of the time was spent in taking potshots at the dragon, ducking quickly back into my tunnel to avoid the fire balls and the ender acid. I never needed the healing potions and could also use the tunnel entrance to protect me from endermen. My armor is still almost pristine.
With this "mole-like" technique, the battle is long and tedious; but not very deadly at all.
I would bring at least 4 chests for storing stuff inside a base of operations. Dirt and light for growing things such as pumpkins, at least 2 snowballs and a spare pumpkin to make a snow golem for snow farming. Obsidian to build a house with or even netherbrick. Potion stands for potion making. 1 spare enchanting chest as well water and sugar cane to be able to sustain myself there. 2 buckets of water to make the initial unlimited water source. Melons and wheat for food as well as much bones for possibly growing mushrooms if I could or at least silk-touch some mycelium. A pumpkin for my head possibly so I can build in 3rd person so I won't agro Endermen. And somehow if I still had inventory space: Swords, Lava for cobblestone production, pickaxes, tree saplings, redstone and switches.
(Enchanted at 20 XP)
The Sword has Sharpness IV
Pickaxe has Efficiency, Unbreaking, Fortune III
3 Stacks of cobble to build up the towers
Pumpkin and snow to make snowmen (To distract enderman from attacking you)
Potion of Regeneration (Extended)
Potion of Strength II
Potion of Swiftness (Extended)
Steak!
I have not gone to the end yet (on my world with a live dragon). Playing hard survival and have not made it a priority. I already found the portal and have enough pearl. I have 30 xp on a diamond chest piece and 30 xp on iron for the rest of my armor. Also have a power 4 bow and enchanted diamond sword. Plenty of potions and planning on taking health and fire resistance. A stack of 64 steaks diamond enchanted pick and probably 4 or 6 stacks of cobble. Basic plan is to get in there and take out the pearls then shoot the dragon with the bow. I'mm assuming i won't need torches and the enderman will not be an issue. Am I missing anything?

You may actually want to take 1 torch. I forgot one and you need it to gather the dragon egg when you're done. Also, since I tunnelled up inside the towers, it was a little dark. Still, it's not too big a deal since you can just go back into the overworld after you slay the dragon, get a torch and then go back to get the dragon egg.
For the dragon I slayed in my first world, I brought cobblestone and found that the dragon could remove it. I did get across to the island from my platform, but then I had to build my bridge again when I re-entered the End after the dragon was gone. So, this second time, I took obsidian and the dragon didn't seem to be able to eliminate those blocks. However, I understand that obsidian can be a little frustrating to collect without an Efficiency IV pickaxe. Once you make the island, I think the best thing to do is just quickly mine a bunch of end stone since the dragon can't remove those blocks when you place them. I don't think there is any need for fire resistance since the dragon does not breath fire; but I don't know for sure if the potion offers any additional protection against the acid attack. I might be tempted to try a potion of swiftness the next time. Instant health is really a good idea if you're going to stay out in the open to attack the dragon. As for endermen, there is a possibility to antagonize them when tracking the dragon around with a bow; but it shouldn't be a problem if you're careful.
Basically one of us went to do potions, the others got food (Golden apples) then I prepared armor and bows. (1000+ Hours of Minecraft will level your ass up) If you want to see the Xbox 360 Edition Dragon, its the next video on my youtube. He was disappointing to me.

I thought this was way too easy. I went in with just a pickaxe, some cobble, a pumpkin (for my head), and rows of snowballs. I play on Hard all the time on this world, haven't died yet.
Well I just killed the dragon. That was fun and I actually read the entire end part. The dragon (like UpUp said) could destroy my cobblestone blocks but I didn't want to use odsidian because of having to remine it later. I tried shooting the dragon first but that's useless since he heals so fast. So then I tunneled into a tower and dug up inside it placing cobble to lift me. The dragon could still destroy the cobble inside the tower through the obsidian but i found just throwing in some ender stone every fifth block worked fine. After tunneling through the first two towers and taking shoots at the dragon I decided to just bridge to the other towers with cobble. I had feather falling 4 on my boots so wasn't worried about falling or getting knocked off. I only used fire resistance once once when I bridged to another tower and dropped on the crystal. They will set you on fire. the healing potions were useful but could have survived and healed without them. I did try using my sword and closing the distance to the dragon for a sword battle but he didn't seem to take as much damage from the sword so it was basically a bow fight A power 4 bow with infinite and an arrow is the best thing to have. I was not able to collect the egg but UpUp said you have to use a torch so I'll go back and do that. Now I have to find a good place to display it. Either in my house or on the spawn pad I built. Glad they added the end.
edit: now i have the dragomn egg. i don't know if they were there from the begining but i think torches appear either when you kill the dragon or when you pop the egg off it's perch but there were 4 torches there.
Have you found a way to re spawn the ender dragon?
my understanding is you can not. the best you could do is save teh game before you enter the end and then after you kill the dragon just not save the game and exit then you and your friends could do it multiple times.
edit: i left the end with 78 xp. i think i got it all but not sure. started at less than 1 xp.
