I'm making an adventure map and I wanted to have an X on my map. What block should I use to create a giant X in my world to make it most visible on the map?
I've tried netherrack and it wouldn't show up at all >.<
depends on the surrounding terrain. use light colored blocks like white wool or snow in forests and swamps. use dark colored blocks like black wool or obsidian in desserts and tundra. you wand as much coontrast as possible to the color of the surrounding terrain.
I think I will try the lava, since it does show up on the map. I would try wool, but I'd rather not watch it burn in a thunderstorm once I'm finished lolIt's in a desert, so I was thinking either lava or tree leaves. I'm gonna try lava first
One "pixel" on the map is an 8x8 block on the ground (or 1/4th of a chunk, or as i call them, sub-chunks), but to get the "pixel" to show up correctly, you need to first determine where the chunk boundaries are, and build your X with them, if you build the 8x8 square on the ground between 2 of the sub-chunks, it will not properly show up.
oops sorry, didn't see visible on the map. My bad. I have to agree that Lava would show up the best but thinking it would have to be pretty wide to show up on the map.
I think it's a case more of size than anything. As DMSiafu said, each pixel on the map is an 8 x 8 chunk on the ground. I'm not sure, but I don't think that pixels that are 1/2 one color and 1/2 another show both colors. If that is the case, then for an X to show up as an X, the very center intersecting part has to be 8 x 8 and then the legs have to extend out from that point 8 wide and 8 long, leaving an 8 x 8 chunk between them. That would make the X cover a total area of 24 x 24. If you want the legs to be 2 pixels long on the map, then you'd have to go again with 8 wide by 8 long legs and there would be three 8 x 8 areas between them. That would make the whole thing cover a total area of 40 x 40. Also, you would obviously want to select a block that contrasts with the color on the map of the adjacent terrain.
If you mean a literal "X" then what has already been said but I have marked spots on maps before with lava in a 16 x16 square and that always works. The lava of course spreads in the hole so you don't need tons of it. A square is the easiest shape to transfer to the map.

If it's in a desert then it wouldn't rain..And the chances of lightning hitting outside of the range of the rain(which puts out lightning fires instantly) is super rare..
