Just a quick question - is there a better lighting source than redstone torches that can be triggered by turning redstone currents on/off. I would like to use them as street lights in my city but I would like something with more lighting power than redstone torches and they haven't added lamps yet
MCXBLA is trying to go apart from the PC so they may even add some things exclusive to Xbox but that means we will probably not get things that are on PC
Like Mustache has stated, redstone lamps won't be here until next update. (Or in my opinion the better one for it should [or hope greatly] have jungles, upsidedownstairs/slab, redstone lamps, ect) Would be nice to have the wall pieces thrown in. lol
Any tips on redstoning? Currently got a working street light system going but it looks really ugly. Any way of getting redstone torches to turn off from underneath them? There is currently a small stone tunnel running behind the spots

Using Redstone Torches as lighting is a very bad idea. Redstone Torches do not provide enough light to prevent hostile mobs from spawning. So Creepers, Skeletons, Spiders, Zombies, and Enderman will still be able to spawn everywhere.
Until we get Redstone Lamps, just use torches or make the piston/glowstone style light.

^ Indeed.
You don't have to be good with redstone, OP. But if you would like to start on that path, quote/PM me. Anyway, this video should be a bit helpful for your situation. It's impossible to make an on/off traditional street lamp that looks nice. Imo, the next best thing is holes appearing in the grass (or whatever your ground is comprised of) prior to glowstone popping up along the path.
Edit - sorry didn't mean to spam. Mouse bug
We're currently equivalent to 1.1 on the PC. Redstone Lamps weren't added until the PCs 1.2. So we will not be getting it until a later title update.

but a note, the simplest way, usually is the best.
and redstone dots can power at 90degree angles.
