Assuming some future Title Update comes out and doesn't make a long running map completely unplayable..
We will need methods (Beyond Dupe Glitches) to attain non renewable resources/ores.
They gave us glowstone dust from Blazes...also a source of furnace fuel with rods.
We can make charcoal with wood
Gold from Zombie Pigmen...
NetherBrick with NetherRack.
You can grow Vines...
Maybe in a future update we will get Iron Golems and have renewable Iron...
What are we missing that Needs to be renewable...? Lapis? Diamonds? Lilly Pads?
What are other methods to "Renew" Items?
I know how to generate:
Seeds/Flowers, Cobble, Smooth Stone, Mossy/Cracked Stone, Obsidian and some others....
... Just curious of other things I might not know about.

True! I'd like for it to be.. Be at least with the different generators that use lava.. the lava is not lost in the process.
An infinite lava well somewhere in the nether would be useful and something else to find. One reason i love wood is it's easily renewable and multipurpose. The iron golems (as mentioned) would be an awesome addition giving us infinite iron. If we get village traders then that would solve some issues. I think you will be able to trade renewable resources for items lik diamonds.

True! Didn't think about how trading could provide resources that are normally not renewable..

As far as renewable resources go it is different with each world. One thing to consider which I saw posted in another thread was this, http://www.reddit.co...evels/c4l8fse which basically states that if each chuck (16x16 area) has an average of 3 diamond ores per, with 4096 chunks in a map that totals to an average of 12,288 diamond ores per world. That is effectively 192 stacks of diamonds, or three and a half double chests of diamonds, not counting using Fortune.
Now getting that little nugget out, there are many things more or less uncommon than diamonds depending on the world in the current version of the game, TU9, Clay(Bricks), Sand(Glass, Tnt, Sandstone), Dirt, Redstone(Redstone torch, Repeater, Pistons, compass, Clock, Map) Lapis, Cobwebs, variations of stonebricks from Stronholds, Iron(Iron bars, Cauldrons, Rail, ETC.), Lava(Obsidian), Netherack(Nerther brick, Fence, Stairs), End stone, Coal, and of course Diamonds. That was off the top of my head, granted I missed a few. But here is the wiki page about Renewable Resources http://www.minecraft...wable_Resources
This should give details about the items that are farm able, http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Farm (Some of which are not possible yet on the 360 version yet, I.E Potatos, Carrots, Iron).
Some of my favorite farms are the snowball farms, very simple, amazingly fun, and fast. The semi auto version-
And the completely automatic version(Does not work with the 360. Sad Panda )
Blaze farms are Splenduperious (<-Deal with it), 1. Drops large amounts of XP 2. Relatively fast 3. Glowstone and Blaze Rods oh my. The farm for them is quite the ordeal, ok it sucks, but Etho's tutorial on how to construct one is pretty concise.
Great thread, gets the creative juices going.
Another thing to consider is recycling. If used as building blocks, many non-renewable resources are reusable by merely tearing down old buildings and putting up new ones (using many of the old materials) in there place. This sort of recycled urban development is becoming quite common in some areas of the world and, in actuality, has been in practice for many centuries.
I don't think we should be allowed to make non renewable resources renewable. If you run out of ores, then that should be it. Move onto another world.
I completely disagree with that....with the limited sized worlds we are given, we should at least eventually be given the option to exist with most of the resources attainable in one way or the other... I'm not saying zombies should drop diamonds, but even if it's a slow/random/painful process we should have access to an extent to most things.. Yes we can run out of diamonds and with a cobble generator make tools for ever... so I can understand how some would be frivolous. Yet I don't believe in the "when it's gone it's gone" mentality seeing as this game could potentially be endless given the right circumstances...

i'm not sure I disagree with MG on this; but I'm not sure I agree either. The real world certainly is 1) finite in size and 2) has several resources that are not renewable. One of the great challenges for mankind is how to live "endlessly" with that reality. Yes, we can run out of oil... so, we're adapting our equipment to run on sunlight and other renewable sources of energy (much like continuing on with cobble tools when our Minecraft world runs out of diamonds). It's not going to happen that a bunch of new oil is going to be forming underground overnight so that we can just keep using it on and on and on.
However, in a game, we have the option of just starting a new world; but the chances for the vast, vast majority of us being able to start anew on a new planet is very slim. Also, the likelihood of a Minecraft Xbox world maintaining my interest long enough to actually run out of any of the non-renewable resources is probably, in all honesty, slim to none. At my age, I'll probably "run out" before any of my worlds actually do.. so, I guess that's why I'm a little on the fence about this one.
Manufacturing.
Trading.
Go somewhere else.
Recycling.
All great ideas to extend the usefulness of a world.
There's also: Conservation: You know you only have so many of something in each world (i.e. diamonds, though I highly doubt anyone has ever really "found them all"). So don't squander them(!), like for decoration, etc. Put each one to good use.
Substitution: You just think you have to have something. You don't "need" diamond pickaxes and armor. If you don't have something, that's part of the challenge- make do with something else, or do without.
Cheating: The purest out there will come totally unglued, but there is that possibility available to you if all else fails- just pop into creative and give yourself all of anything you want. Creative is the ultimate renewable resource resource. Some would consider it cheating, some wouldn't, and for sure everybody has their opinion on it, but all I'm saying is it's an "option". Your choice.

Understandable and it would be ludicrous to believe that one world with such limitations could exist "forever" But it would be nice knowing that in theory it could go on for quite a while if need be given the means to keep it alive. Specially with updates that we could in theory be receiving, that could keep the game fresh for quite some time.

i have been playing my world since the creative mode update came out.. i have a community-type world where around 25 people have lived and played.. i am still finding loads of ores and currently have a personal stock of ~1000 iron ores alone.. i find it very difficult to believe that anybody would get remotely close to finding and using all the resources in a world
i think that technically sure you could run out of diamonds/iron/lava/etc., but at the same time theres no way that will happen
Anyhow, as the previous said, things are finite and probably should stay that way.
There are finite resources in the world in which we live and once they're gone, they're gone.
I think a 4,096 chunk world has plenty enough resouces in it, granted it'd eventually be stripped to Bedrock--of course this would take a very, very long time.
When we include the 1.2 features, here are the following materials that are renewable:
1) Iron (Iron golems)
2) Gold (Pigmen)
3) Diamond tools (Blacksmiths do trade them)
4) Charcoal (Smelting wood)
5) Wood (Replanting saplings)
6) Cobblestone/Stone/Stone bricks (Cobblestone generator, and the vast ammounts of stone in the overworld)
7) Wool (All kinds as long as you keep at least 1 sheep of each color and the sheep have grass to eat)
8) All kinds of food (All animals can be bred. All crops can be farmed. etc)
9) Redstone (Trading with Priests)
10) Obsidian (Completely ignoring the huge reserves of lava in the nether, you can use a glitch involving redstone dust and lava to generate obsidian.)
Now, lets look at some of the things that will not be farmable and question weather or not starting a new world for them would really be worth it:
1) Dirt and all dirt related blocks
2) Sand and all sand related blocks
3) Gravel and flint
4) Bricks
5) Netherrack/Netherbrick
6) Soul Sand
7) Mossy Cobblestone
8) Stronghold specific stone bricks
9) Endstone
10) Lapiz
Personally, I don't think anyone really needs more dirt, gravel, soul sand, netherrack, and endstone then generates in the normal world. If you do, too bad. They exist in abundance imo.
For sand, brick, and lapiz, I believe 4j should make certain villagers trade them. For stronghold specific stone bricks, I believe there should be new crafting recipes involved (4 cobblestone=1 cracked stone brick, 1 stone brick and 1 vine=1 Mossy Stone Brick, 4 stone brick=4 chiseled stone brick and vice versa). I also believe that there should be a crafting recipe for mossy cobblestone (1 seed and 1 cobblestone =1 mossy)
Is flint non-renewable? My understanding is that you can place and mine gravel and have a chance to get flint everytime even from a piece that has already given you flint.
As for the earth being finite with limited resources. Another way to look at it is... the universe is infinite so in the big picture we have unlimited resources.

Well there is sand/gravel generators, which equal out to flint and glass and there is .. i believe they are called transmutators to create mossy/cracked stone(From the Strongholds).... Beyond the redstone trick for obsidian you could also exploit the nether portals and spawn pad in the end to generate obsidian

yu could be right i only mine gravel when it's in th way and only use flint to make flint ansteel torch
