Is there anything in the most recent update that I need to start my world over to enjoy?
I never really know, and I want to make sure if I should start fresh or not.
Not unless you have been to the nether. If so you could just use MCedit to copy/paste the area you worked in into a new world. thus you get a new nether with nether quartz.
If you have already been to the Nether, there is a reset nether function for you to use. If you wish to get NPC villages with blacksmith chests, then it is best to create a new world or if you want rivers.
Rivers were introduced in TU7, so the OP does not have to start a new world to get rivers. Beaches were the biome re-introduced in TU9. If you want some marginally larger beaches to generate, then you will want to start a new world. However, a beach is actually a very easy thing to make by hand, so I personally wouldn't bother. The other issue that might cause you to start a new world is if your current stronghold does not have an intact end portal that can be activated. Alternatively, end portals can also be constructed in creative mode; but that does mean forfeiting the world's status re the leaderboards and achievements. OP, ultimately it's up to you.
The only other thing I can think of atm is the spawning of chests in the blacksmith's of villages. They have similar loot to those in the strongholds. Not worth restarting a whole new map for though imo.
