I have hunted and killed dozens of the magma blocks in the nether to get magma cream. I have tried different tools/weapons including fist to see if that would change the drop rate. Anyone else not getting much magma cream to make fire resistance potions?
The drop rate does seem to have slowed for me too; but I also think it just might be a random thing - sometimes you're on a winning streak and sometimes you're on a losing one. Try using a sword with a looting enchantment. That way, if you do get a drop, you'll probably get more of the item due to the looting sword.
Really? Guess I haven't really been looking for it, since it didn't feel like a rare drop. Just fought one of the giant magma slimes [or whatever their true name is], and usually get two... although I've fought only about two in the last few days

Magma cubes dropping magma creams are very common. Try your luck to get the looting enchantment or keep on killing those cubes! (Psst- I rarely get pork chops from pigs! :I)
I think i have been extremely unfortunate. i started a new map with the update and have only gotten one magma cream drop from dozens of kills. I have no looting weapons. I made 3 fire resistance potions but didn't want to use them yet since the cream was so hard to find. Sounds like i just need to keep at it and i will get more.
I always have a Looting Sword before I enter the Nether, we kinda have stages we go through before we go to the next big thing when we start a serious survival Server. Like Silk Touching all Diamond, Coal, Restone, ect. Until we have a Fortune Pic Axe, or just marking it until we have a Silk Touch, whichever comes first. Burn wood in the meantime. The way we see it our server needs to last a Long time, so you just have to make sure your prepared to get the most each time. You can see in my YouTube Videos that we have STACKS of Redstone Ore, Coal Ore, Lapiz, and Diamond. I even use Diamond Ore for the Headboard of my display bed. Just gotta be equipped before you go into the Nether to get the most of it. Magma Cream we always had a ton of but lately we haven't been getting much, with a Looting sword. So I'd agree that the drop rate has been dropped.
