I have a full set of diamond armor, 2 stacks of extra diamond, and a few swords and picks. I'm mining for Obsidian, for a Nether Portal and Enchantment Table. I need one more piece to have each, and fall in lava and die and my stuff disintegrates in the lava. Hate that!!
Well considering lava really DOES vaporize stuff, get over it :3. Not to mention it's 100% your fault, I'm always careful around lava, or just mining in general.

Well, i try not to keep all my stuff while i'm mining, in case something like that does happen... I lost the only diamond for miles in my first world, i fell in some lava.

On topic to OP: You should of saved before you started mining around lava and also kept fire of resistance potions on the ready as well as a pool of water somewhere nearby or something.
OP, you had 140+ diamonds (2 stacks, plus maybe 30 for armour), and you hadn't at that point got any obsidian?
Tip for next time. . . . after getting some diamond, and before making diamond armour, make an enchantment table and make a fortune pick. With this you could have had up to 6 stacks of diamond.
Also, I personally think you made up the figures, and story, so you could just start a topic.

Water is my best friend. grab a bucket (or two) fill them with water, dig two blocks, one block apart, and put both water buckets in them. break block in between. ta da! infinite water source! fill your buckets, stand in water, and mine the obsidian. if you hit lava, even underneath, the water will turn it into obsidian faster than you can see it. you wont lose any obsidian, and you cant die. try that.

and don't say you dont have iron...if you have any diamonds, you have iron. and if you go mining without a bucket of water when you have iron, you fail as a miner
Bucket of . Especially when you're mining obsidian. I take two, actually, make an infinite water source nearby and then surround the obsidian with water. As i mine, the water turns any lava to obsidian and i keep going. You can even "shut off" the water every now and then (and restart it) to prevent drowning when mining particularly deep lava/obsidian pools. Otherwise, you . True story.

You know what I really hate? How the developers don't seem to have a clue what they're doing and the game becomes more and more broken and unplayable with each TU that is released. Which is a shame, used to love this game, but half the crap in it is broken currently. Lately seems like anything I try to do is stopped by some bug/glitch.

Oh thats right... i'm in the MCX360 section, the post seems so generic. I myself don't have an Xbox, but a friend has one with Minecraft on it, and i honestly don't see anything wrong with it. It is almost exactly the same as the PC version, which at times can be rather buggy. Although 4J do seem to be making some wrong turns throughout.

Only takes about 5-10 seconds, and for most falling in sends them into panic as they frantically try to swim out, basically screwing them over.

Wow. I thought it would be a lot longer than that, I mean, I can swim in lava for minutes or so... I also have protection 16 in total though.
