Can you tell me how many of the $60 price point games do that?
The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim. Free content was added in patches to the game. Not as much as Minecraft, but still the same thing.
I fail to see what this has to do with the original point. Someone simply said that free updates are expensive. So I told them how much money 4J, Microsoft, and Mojang have made form the game. I doubt it's costing them much, if anything, to put out free updates.

I like how you use The Elder Scrolls as an example. 4J did the programming for The Elder Scrolls IV: The Oblivion.
You doubt it costs them anything.
Other than normal operating costs for a company with 2 offices is what you mean right?
I suspect part of the deal with MS & Mojang was for 4J to keep updating the game like Mojang do with the PC version, Minecraft will have made 4J millionaires and then you have to add the money they make from Gamerpics/themes into it as well.

Really guys and gals, the bottom line is that no one here has any idea as to the nature of the deal cut between Mojang, Microsoft & 4J. As the "hired" porter of the game, it is possible that 4J have a "cut" of profits but it is also equally possible that they are merely paid by Mojang on an hourly basis as a "consultant" company. I can think of a hundred different ways this sort of business deal might have been set up. What the updates potentially cost 4J specifically vs. their revenue from the project is really something that is the private business of the company and its shareholders (and maybe the tax department).
Wow, I didn't realize there was so much animosity for the game developers in this community. I, for one, think that Minecraft on the Xbox is awesome, and I haven't noticed these bugs that supposedly make the game "unplayable" or "worthless." Even with TU9 downloaded, I've still been able to play the game relatively unhindered. There are a few annoyances here and there, but since they will be fixed with the next update in relatively short order, I'm pretty happy about it.
I also don't have a problem with Mojang and 4J having a pay day either. If you had spent the past few years making this game into what it is today, wouldn't you? I've done some light and limited game programming a few years back, so I have a limited understanding of what it takes to make all these features work together perfectly. It's hard work, and very frustrating at that. If each of them wants to pocket a couple million for the work they have put in so far, I say job well done. Mojang doesn't need new programmers with a learning curve because guess what; If you're a programmer being asked to come work for Mojan or 4J, and you're looking at the same numbers we are here, you're not showing up at the interview expecting to settle for a measly 100k/yr especially if its entirely possible that you're signing a short term contract. The more money your company makes, the more expensive things that use to be cheap get. If it were really as easy to run those companies as some of you have said, then why don't you guys go out there and make millions of dollars with your own software giants.

Bingo.
I am very happy with the rate of updates, and the game as it is. Every program has bugs, humans don't make anything perfect.
Wow, I didn't realize there was so much animosity for the game developers in this community.
That is sadly how it is for almost every game these days. People who have been developing games for decades are being ridiculed and insulted by most of their "fan" base these days.
Every average joe thinks they can do better or that the developers aren't actually trying or some other stupid thing. I mostly blame it on the recent wave of self granted entitlement gamers seemed to have come up with in the last few years. Seems like people think they know better than someone who actually programs games for a living just because they play a lot of video games.
I would also like to point out something I believe hasn't even been pointed out yet.
The Xbox 360 Edition isn't meant to catch up to or be like the PC version. Mojang and 4J have said from the get go that this is going to be a different game than the PC version once they reach an equivalent 1.2.3 update.
So if one of your main points is that we are very far behind the PC, then the point isn't valid because we were never going to catch up to the PC in the first place.
I'd like to counterpoint. Unless your already playing MineCraft, and part of the community you would have know idea about what type of version for the xbox your purchasing.
This is where YouTube, loaded with user content is MineCraft's greatest advertisement, and perhaps the source of where all this "entitlement" comes from.
Long before xbox received the game, many casual gamers have seen videos and would or could be under the impression many features in the videos, if not all pc versions are in the game when released on xbox. There is nothing in the xbox market place page that states exactly what features are in or out on initial purchase, or what equivalent pc version is being sold.
One could argue that there is a demo, but again, its a demo, some features would naturally be omitted. I blame the MS marketplace, not Mo or 4J.
If advertised in the market place that the xbox's version was a far lesser equivalent the pc (version at that time), or directly mentioned certain limitations such as size of map, item drops ect. sales may have been less, but gamer angst quite lower.
One does not complain about the "pocket" version the way one would complain (or mildly comment as I'm doing) because the title immediately describes the version of the game... It suggests smaller right in the title.
Add the average age group, and a handful of indie clones features(such as size) into the mix and you get a lot of gaming angst. Also, the version for xbox, and its updates that were received duplicated bugs of previous versions of pc MC. This can give the impression that its all just a cut and paste affair in regards to coding.
For me, the xbox version is good. I had to restart new maps a couple of times due to updates or being digitally hosed. Sure I want more updates and sooner. But I'm still playing while the pc is tied up either with the wife's fanfics or watching video. And that's why I got the xbox version.

I beg to differ. I had never played Minecraft before my friend's kids started playing it with me son on the Xbox and my son purchased it for me a few days later. It took me literally five minutes to find the Wiki because the game mentions it as a resource followed by finding this forum. The Minecraft Wiki has a section that literally lays out every version release for both the PC and the Xbox. Took me 2 seconds of reading there to figure out that the PC had a lot more updates than the Xbox had and that there were a lot of features on the PC that were not yet on the Xbox. The ingame notes have also been saying all along that "this game will be updated eventually." I haven't seen any advertising at all on the Xbox version that has either said or implied that it was exactly the same as the PC or exactly at the same level as the PC as far as updates go. In fact, I have seen a lot of information both in interviews, tweets, and other comments from Mojang, Microsoft, and 4J that have consistently indicated that the PC and the Xbox version are different from each other. If, as a consumer, you don't know what it is you're buying, it is you the consumer who have the obligation to find out for yourself.
I am super disappointed in this topic. I am in a further note going to delete this topic. It was started as a community discussion towards the betterment of something we all care about to a degree. It has been literally nothing but 6 pages of arguments with each other, and no matter who is right or wrong it disregards it's purpose repetitively. I think I've found what I believe to be is a good group of people who enjoy the game just as much as I do, and it bothers me in all angles that anyone can say something just to try and belittle another person. I'm sorry if this offends anyone.

So it's ok if we expect the "Pocket Edition" to be different, but when it says "Xbox Edition" we shouldn't?
It's the xbox version of MC.
Not the PC version on the xbox.
If that's what you think it is, you're gonna always be disappointed.
