My friend has a house that's on the opposite side of the map as mine. I built a mine cart track between our houses that's about 700 blocks long.
If I send some supplies in a chestcart on the track, will it make it to my friend's house? I realize that it's probably a 'no', but it seems like it'd be relatively simple to code the mine carts so that only the immediately adjacent blocks are constantly being loaded when the cart goes out of the chunks that are currently in use...
Also, what's the point of coalcarts if they won't travel into unloaded chunks?
Since you have already been through the area to lay the tracks it will be fine. In an old map before the creative update I had mine carts that would run to all four corners of the map and when I would follow a short time later it would be fine. You may loose the items in the chest if you leave it for a long period of time though.

Sweet, a pleasant surprise.
